Mum slammed for 'sad' and 'awful' frozen Christmas dinner

A mum has been slammed for serving up a "sad" and "awful" frozen Christmas dinner this year.

Christmas is done and dusted for another year, and all the shopping, planning and preparing has come to an end. For some people, the Christmas dinner is a well operated machine with countless hours devoted to ensuring every dish is cooked to perfection by a set time.

Others take a more casual approach and either venture out to be wined and dined on Christmas day and avoid any kitchen stresses, while others do host but with less traditional options and pre-prepared dishes.

One mum took to Mumsnet's popular Am I Being Unreasonable (AIBU) thread with a post titled "[AIBU] To ask what you think of this xmas dinner" to gauge strangers' reactions to the meal she served her family and guests. Without revealing it was the meal she prepared, she listed the ingredients as "microwave pulled pork, frozen Brussels, frozen roast potatoes, frozen Yorkshire pudding" and "ah Bisto" gravy. She added: "Christmas pudding (ready made) with tin custard. Drinks were a selection of beer, vodka, rose wine, cider and soft drinks, and fruit shoots", then asked: "What would your reaction be?"

Her post was met with heaps of responses from fellow Mumsnet users keen to share their thoughts. One said: "Someone can't cook?" Another said: "Well I don't think pulled pork really goes with roast trimmings, but I'm all for people eating what they enjoy rather than cooking a traditional Xmas dinner!"

A third commented: "I would be delighted if someone has gone to the effort of providing me with a meal and reminded anyone being rude enough to judge it that cooking does not come naturally to everyone."

Another simply said: "Sad." One Mumsnet user said: "I'd be grateful someone hosted me for a change even if I didn't like the food". And another commented: "Drinks and pud sound ok, the rest sounds awful. I would assume someone with zero ability to cook was attempting a roast (and was a little confused about what pulled pork was)".

One Mumsnet user said: "Any other time I wouldn't be fussed and wouldn't judge, but for Christmas dinner?! Nope." And another added: "Hugely disappointed. I quite enjoy cooking so the fact that someone else has prepared isn't something I value. I'd far rather make something good myself than be served something mediocre."

In a follow up comment, the mum revealed it was the meal she'd prepared and said: "So time for context. We can't cook so when it's our turn we normally pay for going out for xmas dinner. We moved house less than two weeks ago and with all the faff we forgot to book anything for nine people so that's why everyone had a frozen xmas dinner this year. Everyone knew the menu and pulled pork was decided by everyone."

She then added: "No one cared and everyone mentioned how nice this year was as there was no pressure to finish it all as it had zero effort. It was our turn to host and we wanted everyone to see our new house. It really doesn't matter what's on your plate."
