Mum slammed for making an 'awful name even worse' with her newborn daughter

Many new parents yearn for a unique or interesting name for their baby, but the last thing you'd want is that choice being slated as an "abomination" by others.

Unfortunately, this is exactly what happened to one proud parent after they shared their chosen baby name via social media, publicly welcoming their "angel" daughter to the world.

The sweet post shows the newborn lying in her crib, with a small sign that reads "she's here". The adoring parent described their little girl as a "dream", adding, "Our angel is here and we've never felt more complete. I love you Wrenleigh James."

A screenshot of the post was shared via Reddit by a self-professed 'name nerd', who remarked that she'd encountered the name "Wrenleigh/Wrenley" on two separate occasions recently, and just couldn't understand it.

Admitting they weren't exactly a fan of the name, the baffled Reddit user wrote: "I've come across this name in the wild twice in as many days. Can someone explain what the craze is?"

Other users were left equally unimpressed by the name, with some arguing that the alternative spelling had made an "awful name even worse."

One person shuddered: "Oh, wow, there are THREE spellings of this abomination in the world. Wrenlee, Wrenley, Wrenleigh. Yikes."

Another commented: "Imagine carrying a child for nine months, bonding with her while she's in the womb, delivering her into this world, she's placed into your arms... and you decide that yep, you'll name her Wrenley.

"As for the middle name... hey James-for-a-girl crowd, no one thinks you're bold or edgy. No one thinks you're imaginative, because you're not. Some of us, however, think you're idiots."

A third deadpanned: "Great, now I have to name my kid Wrennliiye so they can be unique."

Taking a different view, a fourth admitted: "I hated Wrenley/Wrenlee/Whatever when I first saw it but I think it's growing on me. The spelling is kinda ugly with the 'Wr' but it sounds nice how I pronounce it in my head (it's pronounced REN-lee, right?)"

Although it may not be everyone's cup of tea, many parents adore Wrenley, a name that is American in origin and has a sweet meaning.

According to The Bump, the name Wrenley means 'small songbird'. A wren is also a little bird with many positive associations, including spring and rebirth, meaning this could well be a good nature-inspired name for wildlife-loving parents.
