Mum shocked to find 'painting of son' in 'creepy' B&B during holiday stopover

A mum was shocked to spot a painting of a child who is the spitting image of her son while staying in a "spooky" B&B. Jennie Stevenson stayed at the "secluded" property for the night while on the way home from a holiday.

She said her family, who relocated to Sweden from the UK two years ago, needed a break on the long drive home from their first ski trip in the country. And she said they were in the dining room, getting ready to sit down to dinner, when they noticed something wasn't quite right, reports The Mirror.

The mum-of-three said: "My daughter just went, 'Mum, there's a picture of Barney on the wall'." The artwork, by Swedish painter Carl Larsson, depicts a little girl - but she looks identical to Jennie's seven-year-old son, just with long hair.

Thankfully, Jennie and her husband weren't too spooked by the painting, Flowers in the Meadow, even though they were staying in an "old-fashioned" property with "creaky floors". And, luckily, Barney found the whole thing funny.

But Jennie did come across a little freaked out when she later shared her "disconcerting" find online. Writing on Twitter, she said: "Just arrived at our secluded rural B&B to find a painting of our youngest child depicted as a small girl. There's absolutely no terrifying precedent for this, so it's probably fine".

Replying to a comment, Jennie, who works as a writer, added: "Woke up at some point to a terrifying papery noise (think riffling of pages or a deck of cards) but we all survived."

Meanwhile, other social media users had their own suspicions. One person speculated the noise could be "the child trying to escape the painting".

A second asked: "Any witches nearby?" Jennie replied: "In Sweden, Easter is when all the witches fly to the Blue Mountain, so I'm going to assume yes?"
