Mum shares paycheck hack that could see you save almost €1,000 each year

Trying to save can be a difficult task, especially as the cost of living crisis continues in Ireland.

However, making small savings can go a long way over time and provide you with a safety net should you ever need it or help you achieve your long-term goals, whether it's buying a house or something less significant.

One mum has revealed her payday hack that could see you save over €900 in a year if you start today.

The technique is simple and only requires you to save a little each month, starting at €12 in January and increasing this by a further €12 each month.

By doing this, you can gradually build up your savings each month and get used to putting aside some of your paycheque.

At the end of the twelve months, you should be aiming to save a hefty sum of €140 per month.

While this sounds like a huge amount to take off your spending money, you would be surprised at how many things you can cut back on when you simply make the money unavailable.

Mum Emma Gill, who first shared the idea to a Manchester Family Facebook group, said she believes you can really do it and make a difference to your finances.

She wrote: "So I've seen lots of ideas for saving money, but none of them will really work for me – I never have change in my purse to do the penny challenge, for example."

She added: "That's why I'm giving this a go. Every pay day – or at the end of a – you put in one of these amounts and then cross it off the list. By the end of the year it's a whopping £780!"

Emma said the challenge was tough, but she would be trying to stick it out.

She said: "It won't be easy – especially when it comes to the £120 month – but it's worth a go. I reckon I'll start with the £10 in January."

Others commented on Emma's suggested doing the challenge backwards to get the worst out of the way.
