Mum shares genius clothes drying hack amid soaring energy bills as price cap rises

Many people are looking at ways they can save money ahead of the rising price cap which is set to come into force tomorrow on October 1.

Whilst the temperature has dipped over the last few days leaving many reaching for their blankets, other are still trying not to put the heating on in a bid to save money.

Because of this, clothes can take a bit longer to dry with people also not wanting to put on their tumble dryer - if they have one.

And whilst this can be an expensive household item to run, one mum has come up with a genius trick to help her clothes dry faster as well as saving money.

In the post she wrote: "Thought I would share my clothes drying hack, not for everyone but works for us. A £46 plastic greenhouse.

Taking to Facebook's private group, Extreme Couponing and Bargains UK group, one mum showed the groups two million members what she does to dry her clothes due to a lack of room in her home as well as having asthmatic children.

She said: "We don't have room for large airers indoors and also not ideal to have wet washing around due to having asthmatic children, we only have storage heaters so can't dry clothes on them either, come the spring I will use the greenhouse for its proper purpose and grow plants with my children."

The post, to date, has since received nearly six thousand reactions and over one thousand comments with people hailing the trick as well as sharing their own.

One said: "This is a fantastic idea! I don't have a garden, but I do have an enclosed balcony that I dry washing on, usually with the aid of a dehumidifier.

"If I get a smaller greenhouse I can pop it over the airer and dehumidifier and it should dry quicker too, saving more on the cost of the dehumidifier. I'm super happy you posted as its not something I'd have thought of."

Another commented: "Love this idea! I hang washing on hangers under my gazebo and pop the airers under there so they don't get wet if it rains. But we need to take the canopy off soon and this seems like a brilliant alternative!"

"This would be great with a heated drying rack. The tent would contain the heat" wrote a third whilst a fourth replied: "You’d need to have good ventilation otherwise the humidified air won’t be able to escape."
