Mum screamed 'I'm gonna kill you!' before shoving electric drill into disabled neighbour's head

A mum thrust a drill into her disabled neighbour’s head whilst screaming: “I’m gonna kill you” in a horrifying attack. Jade Kent, 31, barged into the woman’s home before pinning her to her seat using her foot and shoving the Black and Decker drill against her skull.

After turning the power tool on, the woman squirmed down into her seat to get away but was caught in the neck. Despite telling Kent that she was disabled and pleading with her to stop, the mum-of-one continued to punch and kick her before running home.

Kent was originally charged with attempted murder, but has since pleaded guilty to an alternative offence of section 18 wounding with intent and aggravated burglary. Last week, (April 21) she was jailed for five years and four months at Manchester Crown Court.

Prosecutor Geoff Whelan said that at around 7am on May 29 last year, the woman, who is registered disabled and uses a mobility scooter, was woken up to the sounds of screaming outside her house. He said Kent was known to be responsible for anti-social behaviour in the street.

She asked her partner what was going on, and both saw Kent, a former carer for people with learning difficulties, outside complaining about a car and demanding it be moved from outside of her house.

She was shouting: “Come outside. F****** come outside and see what happens,” the court heard.

They told her to go home and go to bed, but Kent, who appeared to be drunk, continued to shout for them to come outside. Later that morning, the victim's partner saw a silver Audi covered in paint parked outside Kent’s house.

When he later took the dog for a walk with his nephew he came across Kent. An argument developed regarding a text the boy had allegedly sent to her daughter, during which she called him a “f****** little nonce.

The man told her that the boy was only eight-years-old and told her to go home, and as they parted ways they saw her go back into her house and close the door behind her.

However, moments later CCTV showed Kent run from her house carrying an item, before bursting into the woman’s home uninvited.

"I’m gonna f****** kill you, you hear me?”

“The woman heard her front door bang open and shouted: “What’s going on?” as Kent stood in the hallway staring directly at her,” Mr Whelan said.

“She said “What are you doing?” but before she could finish her sentence, the defendant just ran straight towards her shouting “I’m gonna f****** kill you, you hear me?”

“The defendant thrust her knee into her abdomen forcing her backwards effectively pinning her in her seat. The defendant then brandished the power tool saying: “Have you seen this drill?”

“She then forced the drill against the back of her head just behind her ear. She then pushed the drill against the back of her head and turned the drill on pushing it into the woman’s head.”

The woman slouched into her seat to avoid the drill going into her skull.

During the struggle the drill slipped down to the woman’s neck where Kent continued to apply pressure, causing her excruciating pain.

Kent then dragged the woman to the floor by her hair, before throwing her into the kitchen where she stood over her and kicked her to the chest and stomach.

The woman curled up into a ball in an attempt to protect herself, pleading with Kent: “Please stop, I’m disabled”.

Despite her cries, Kent continued to attack her, kicking her to the stomach and stamping down onto her face, before fleeing.

Emergency services were called, and the police arrested Kent at her house on Lees Street.

The woman was left with multiple injuries including a 4cm wound to the side of her scalp, a cut to her neck, as well as bruising to her collar bone, face and neck.

In an emotive statement read before the court she said the attack had left her with permanent scars.

Kent was said to have previous convictions, the majority of which were committed when she was a youth.

Mitigating, Rachel Shenton said: “This was a truly horrible incident and must have been terrifying for the complainant. The defendant is the first to acknowledge that.

“It was a moment of madness, a loss of control, she was intoxicated.”

Ms Shenton said her client accepted that binge drinking was an issue. She added that Kent was building flat pack furniture in her daughter’s bedroom at the time.

“She tells me: “I hate everything about this, everything about what I did. I would do anything to go back in time.”

'You attacked her for no reason at all'

In sentencing, the Recorder of Manchester, Judge Nicholas Dean KC said: “You are someone who, when in drink or under the influence of alcohol, behaves in an antisocial manner. Your behaviour was inexcusable and horrific.

“For reasons only you will know, you took up a drill, an electric drill, carried it to her home and attacked her. A woman with her own vulnerabilities, you attacked her for no reason at all.

“The photographs of her injuries are shocking to behold.”

Kent, of Lees Street, Abbey Hey, was jailed for five years and four months, of which she will serve two thirds of her sentence in prison. She was also made the subject of a restraining order preventing her from contacting the victim indefinitely.

Speaking after the hearing, Gary Logan, Senior Crown Prosecutor for CPS North West said: “This was an unprovoked attack on a disabled woman in her own home.

“The CPS worked with GMP to build a strong case including CCTV and eyewitness testimony. The strength of the evidence was such that Kent had no option but to accept her guilt.

“My thoughts are with the victim and her family who have been badly affected by this incident. I can only hope knowing Kent has been brought to justice will help them to put this behind them.”
