Mum 'scared' as yobs launch objects at car

A mam was "scared" when her partner’s car was targeted by a group of yobs while she was inside it.

The woman, who asked to remain anonymous, was driving down Marshall’s Cross Road in St Helens last night with her partner and one year old when an object hit her window.

Sitting in the passenger seat, the woman said the items which she believed to be "twigs from the trees" were “chucked right at the window” on her side of the car.

Shortly after the first object was thrown at around 8.15pm, a second followed, leaving the mum-of-one ‘shaken up’.

She told the ECHO: “I was more scared because my one-year-old was in the car.”

The woman added: "There was about four teenage lads with black coats and hoods up."

Posting about their experience on a community Facebook page, another local warned others after her car was targeted on Sunday night.

She wrote: “Be careful driving past Sherdley Park. There is someone launching objects at passing cars. It has been reported to the police.”

Sherdley Park is situated between Marshalls Cross Road and Elton Head Road - the same location as where the mum-of-one was targeted.

A spokesperson for Merseyside Police confirmed they received two reports 10 minutes apart of young people causing anti-social behaviour on Marshalls Cross Road last night.

The first report was received at around 8.05pm of a rock being thrown at a moving car and the second was reported ay 8.15 where items were reportedly being thrown at passing cars using a catapult.

Police attended the scene and three boys were stopped and searched and their details recorded.

They were released with no further action.

Community Inspector for St Helens Jon Smith said: “This type of reckless behaviour has the potential to lead to tragic consequences and we will not tolerate it.

"I am appealing to parents and guardians of children to please check what your child is up to when they are out with friends, and make sure they are not participating in such a dangerous activity.

"Please also be warned that prosecution for this very serious offence will always be our objective."
