Mum saves £2,000 on kitchen makeover using Amazon, B&Q and B&M bargains

DIY kitchen renovations can be expensive - so it pays to save money where you can.

For one mum-of-three, her new kitchen set her back only an impressive £700 after she shopped around for bargains.

Stacey Addis, 28, was able to transform her ordinary kitchen into a stunning navy space with a beautiful flower wall.

She was inspired after admiring the plant-filled space at a local hairdressers and then spotting a grass panel in B&M.

As she does hair extensions as a side hustle, Stacey wanted to create a salon-like ambiance to their new kitchen.

Posting on the Facebook group DIY On A Budget UK, she said: “Myself and my partner Darryl, 38, came up with the idea after a local hairdresser had flowers and plants all over the salon, and we loved the look of it.

“I still wanted it to look pretty for my customers and when we saw the grass panels in B&M my partner suggested making a flower wall above the breakfast bar so it still has that salon feeling!"

The couple started by putting the plain grass panels up on the wall but they felt that it was missing a touch.

They decided to slot some more flowers from the same range into the grass and hang ones from the top.

Next, the tiles. Darryl was able to lay new grey wall and floor tiles down that they interspersed with mosaic tiles for effect.

Stacey said: "I've always hated the tiles in our kitchen, so my partner laid some new grey wall and floor tiles down.

“He also cut up a pack of mosaic tiles which he ran between the grey wall tiles to break it up a bit.

“He managed to do it all himself as he's quite handy with DIY but I felt it didn't match the cupboards once it was done.

“Unfortunately, we couldn't afford to pay for all the new kitchen cabinets so we looked into the DC Fix adhesive wrap.

"We looked up reviews and other people's transformation pictures beforehand and decided to give it a go as others had achieved great results from using it.”

It was only when she broke down the costing entirely that she realised just how much she’d saved.

Rather than forking out for a whole new range of cupboards, she paid just £8 a roll.

With some nifty DIY skills, Stacey said that no one else would recognise that they weren’t entirely new cupboards all together.

She said: "I would sit and wrap the cupboard each night once the kids were in bed.

"Once I'd finished, my partner would then use his heat gun to heat up the plastic wrap to shrink it so it's tighter on the cupboards and get out the air bubbles.

"For anyone else looking to do it I would definitely suggest using a heat gun at the end as it looked so much better afterwards and you get a better finished look."

To complete the look, Stacey ordered accessories online.

This included a rose gold tap from Amazon for £30, the rose gold handles from B&Q for £8 per pack.

The worktop, sink, wall tiles, floor tiles, ceiling light and under cabinet lights were all from B&Q.

Stacey said that their DIY approach probably saved them nearly £2,000.

It helped that Daryl was also being able to do the tiling, fitting the sink and hob and more himself.
