A mum has warned beachgoers about the dangers of bonfires and barbecues after her son's foot was burned on hot sand.
Kerensa Long is urging people to ensure any fires are completely out and dampened down with sea water, or marked with stones to highlight the danger. Ezekiel Long, aged four, was taken to hospital after he stepped on scorching hot sand while playing last weekend at Grebe Beach, near Falmouth, CornwallLive reports. There was no evidence that there had been a fire on the patch where Ezekiel burned his foot.
She said: "As it's that time of year, I just want to send a message to people to clear up and make sure it's safe before they leave. Take the barbecue home or wash it in the water first. It's irresponsible and it can have a big impact."

Ezekiel was taken to hospital where he was seen immediately for his wound. He was due to return to hospital for further treatment on his foot, which was going to include cutting skin off.
Karensa explained that the bottom of his foot was "completely blistered" after the incident.
She said she felt it was even more important considering there could be even younger children crawling on the beach who may be unable to lift themselves from the burning sand.
