A heartbroken mother claims she wept throughout a four-hour flight back to the UK after her Turkey holiday ended in disaster. Out-of-work nurse Iqra Raza was returning from a week-long break in Marmaris but she claimed a confrontation with an airport worker caused the distress.
The 28-year-old mother-of-one claimed the airport employee was "rude" and started to "smash her bag" whilst she was checking in with her husband for the easyJet flight. She was told to pay a further £48 for an extra piece of hold luggage at Dalaman Airport, despite already booking and paying for it days earlier.
After contesting this Ms Raza, of Nottingham, who had already forked out £7.50 for the 15kg bag, said the man started being rude, reports NottinghamshireLive. She raged: "I had already booked it four days before but they said it wasn't showing on their system.
"He then started banging my suitcases around and when I got back I noticed two expensive bottles of perfumes had been broken."
She said the incident upset their baby son who began to cry. The nurse added: "He kept our passports and left us waiting. Eventually a woman came and took my card and charged me £48 for the bag.
"Everyone else there said I should complain as they shouldn't treat me like that. I don't feel like flying with easyJet ever again, I was crying for the whole flight back."
Ms Raza has now sent a formal complaint to the holiday company as she wants to be compensated for the additional baggage and broken perfume. In an email sent to Ms Raza responding to her complaint, easyJet apologised for the incident.
The airline said that feedback would be shared and whilst the outcome was confidential, it assured "that any action and training needed will be implemented".
An easyJet spokesperson said: "Unfortunately Ms Raza arrived at bag drop with an additional bag for her flight and so in line with our terms and conditions of travel was required to pay for this at the airport. All customers are clearly informed of their bag allowance when booking and are reminded of this ahead of travel.
"We are looking into Ms Raza’s feedback on her experience at the airport with our ground handling partner at Dalaman and as a gesture of goodwill have refunded the cost of her additional bag."
