A father heroically rescued his 11-month-old son from a sinking car during Storm Bert flooding as the baby’s mother watched on in horror.
Paige Newsome said her partner Andre Randles pulled their child to safety through the car window as water poured into the vehicle in Todmorden, West Yorkshire.
She wrote: "[It was] such a scary experience for Andre having to pull himself and our 11-month-old baby out of the car windows, whilst the water was flooding into the car."
Ms Newsome shared a dramatic photo of the sinking car, explaining that the incident occurred after her partner mistakenly drove into the water, believing it to be shallow.
“Calderdale Council needs to sort this out ASAP!” she added.
“They have been getting notified about this part of [our road] multiple times by the owners of the house next to where our car is parked.
“I cannot thank those owners enough for taking Andre and [our baby] into their home and helping them.”
The near tragedy comes after three men died as a result of heavy wind and rain as a consequence of Storm Bert - which has swept across the country this weekend.
The Met Office has warned of likely delays across road, rail, air and ferry services on Sunday, with a “short-term loss of power” also possible.
The national weather service has warned some communities may be cut off by flooded roads, particularly in the west of England.
Heavy and persistent rain is set to hit the south-west of England into Sunday, with a chance that some places over Dartmoor could see 100-150mm of rainfall, the Met Office said.
While the yellow warning has extended to London, it is in the northern parts where melting snow has caused the worst flooding - and Todmorden is said to have been hit badly.
