Mum's terror after 11-year-old son alleged target of abduction attempt at East Kilbride school

A mum has spoken of her terror after her son was the alleged target of what is reported to be an abduction attempt outside an East Kilbride primary school.

The 11-year-old child was waiting to be picked up from Kirktonholme Primary School last week on Wednesday, May 25 when his mum claims he was approached by three men in a white van on Dornoch Place.

He is said to have told the men to "go away" after they repeatedly told him to get in the van by the driver, Lanarkshire Live reports.

While he was unharmed in the incident, his mum has said he was left "so frightened".

Sharing a post on Facebook, she warned other parents to be on high alert after the upsetting incident as well as asking for any CCTV or dashcam footage to be released.

She wrote: "Just want to warn other parents today after school between 3.03 and 3.10pm there was a white lorry van with three men trying to ask my son to get in at Kirktonholme Primary School. After he shouted 'no my mum's coming' they continued to ask and then left.

"I'm also asking if anyone saw something or heard something to let me know or anyone who stays nearby that has cameras or ring doorbell or who had a delivery or something from them any information would be appreciated."

Speaking to Lanarkshire Live, the mum said "I could have lost him in seven minutes."

She also praised the school for their serious response to the incident, saying they have been on "high alert".

She said: "I've felt sick, it's my worst fear come to life.

"My son is so frightened, he's definitely been scarred mentally by this. I'm so proud that he did the right thing and told them to go away. He said the incident made his belly hurt.

"Everyone is on edge as it could have been any one of their kids. The school has been great and on high alert, they really care so much about their pupils."

In the mum's social media post she included a picture of the type of van and suspects which read: "Driver was brown skinned, short beard, brown hair, black t-shirt. He didn't get a good look at one of them and the third was white skinned, blonde hair, white t-shirt."

The van is reported to have left in the direction of the College Milton and was seen driving on the wrong side of the road.

CCTV images of the van have since been shared by residents with doorbell cameras in the area.

Cops confirmed they received "a report of concern", however Police Scotland have not been able to establish any criminality at this time.

Inspector David Doherty said: "We received a report of an incident whereby a van approached a boy in East Kilbride on Wednesday, May 25.

"Enquiries were carried out and it was established there were was nothing untoward. The complainer was fully updated."

Staff and parents have been made aware of the incident with police set to visit the school for a safety talk with pupils.

A spokesman for South Lanarkshire Council said: "We are working with police to support the young people in the school including reinforcing safety messages including Stranger Danger."
