A mum has vowed never to eat from McDonald's again after claiming she bought her four-year-old daughter a McFlurry and a drink and found a hair and nit in the cold treats. Chantelle Gledhill, 31, said she made the discovery when her daughter Myla Lingard took the lid off her Fanta on Thursday evening.
The youngster had finished her drink and was trying to suck on an ice cube when the lone strand of hair was spotted - along with what appeared to be a nit, Chantelle said. And when she went to take the first spoonful of her McFlurry, the young girl noticed another strand.
The child's shocked father took the order back to the restaurant in Bradford, West Yorkshire, where they were refunded and given an apology from staff. However, McDonald's insisted no one involved with preparing the order had long hair and it was sealed before being handed to the delivery driver.
Chantelle, a mum-of-four, said: "When my daughter was finished, she took the lid off it to try to suck on the ice. The cup was tilted and her dad saw something at the bottom of the cup and he started gipping.
"He showed me and I said that's disgusting, I just couldn't believe it. I was upset, I don't know if my daughter has swallowed anything because it was finished by the time we realised.
"Then she picked up her ice cream and it had a hair on the spoon."
Chantelle made the £12 order from her local McDonald's via a delivery service on Thursday after having her wisdom teeth out. She thought an iced drink would help sooth her sore mouth and she could treat two of her children who were at home that night while their siblings were sleeping out.
But she was left fuming when they made the revolting find. She added: "They offered us a £10 voucher and said we hope you come back, but I'll never eat in a McDonald's again. It's put me off completely.
"My daughter has drunk a full bottle of pop and if she hadn't took the lid off, we wouldn't have known. It's not even the same hair colour as ours, it's completely different, so there's no way it could be one of our hairs.
"McDonald's is a big thing in our house, their nan and grandad had only took them to McDonald's a few days earlier as a treat. But I'll never eat there again."
McDonald's said all staff with long hair wear hair nets but the firm checked video footage in the store and and no one involved with preparing the order had long hair. The order was then sealed before being handed to the delivery driver.
A spokesperson for fast food chain said: "Food safety and hygiene is of the utmost importance to us and we place great emphasis on quality control. We’d like to apologise to the customer for their experience on this occasion.
"When the matter was brought to our attention we offered the customer a full refund and have since conducted a thorough investigation.”
