Mum's horror at 'parasite' crawling out of her eye after coming back from holiday

A mum has spoken out about her experience of having a "parasite" burrowed into her eye that left people "feeling sick".

Louise Edwards awoke on July 22 to find what appeared to be a spot on her right eye. Initially, she believed she was simply bitten by an insect, however, as the day went on, the spot became bigger and bigger, forcing her eye shut.

On the day after, the 34-year-old mum went to St Paul's Eye Hospital in Royal Liverpool Hospital to get the large lump looked at. After an examination, she was provided a course of antibiotics and was sent home, the Liverpool Echo reports.

However, she was forced to go back to the hospital as the treatment she was given did nothing to improve the condition while the pain was "the worst she had ever felt". One of Louise's neighbour's advised her to use boiling water to draw the spot out.

The "parasite" revealed itself after Louise followed her neighbour's advice (Louise Edwards)

After carrying out the advise, the mum said she felt a "popping sensation" and saw some kind of "parasite with legs" crawl out of the wound. Louise is still unsure of what it could be despite being in Turkey a month prior to the incident and a caravan the week before.

Talking to the Liverpool Echo, Louise said: "I was in my house, I hadn't really been anywhere recently. I was in Turkey around a month before, and at the caravan a week before, but nothing came up in the days after.

"I sleep with the windows open so maybe something got in, then as I woke up and had this thing, like a pimple. They (St Pauls) tried to squeeze it and gave me antibiotics and sent me home.

"The next day I couldn't even see because my eye had closed over. I have really bad eyesight and the eye with the spot was my good eye. I couldn't see a thing so went back."

She added: "I saw my neighbour on the Monday (July 25) and she asked me what had happened. When I explained she said to use boiling water straight from the kettle to draw whatever it is to the top.

The "parasite" has been likened to something from "Stranger Things" (Louise Edwards)

"So that's what I did. I felt this popping sensation and as I squeezed it this thing started coming out. I shouted my dad to come and have a look and he said it was some sort of parasite with legs."

She continued: "One of the nurses laughed and said it looked like something out of an alien movie. I felt like I was in an alien movie. They told me to carry on with the antibiotics and go home.

"I took it to the School of Tropical Medicine but they said you have to be referred. I just want to know what it is and warn people."

Some commenters of the original story noted that the "parasite" was like something from "Stranger Things" or a "horror movie". One commenter, Claire Fearns, said: "Hope you get answers it must have been horrific for you, not good to be told to ‘go home and keep taking your antibiotics’. Did you go in the sea whilst in Turkey perhaps? Something floating has caught your eye and grew but then again you can see how it’s grew rapidly already. Good luck finding out."

Another commenter, Gary Robbo, wrote: "Terrible how many times Louise was turned away with this", as Sharon Sansbury added: "Omg that’s what horror films are made of!" Karen Ellerby said: "Looks like what was in series Stranger Things!"
