A mum is ‘angry’ and appealing for help after a food delivery cyclist reportedly sped through a pedestrian crossing and knocked over her five-year-old son.
Stacey Sharkey claims she was enjoying a summer holiday treat day with her little boy on Monday afternoon (August 15) when he was hit by the bike. Coen Stockman was crossing the road with Stacey outside the Printworks, and was heading towards the Arndale at the time.
“We just came out of the cinema and were walking over to get Coen some food,” his mum, 33, explained. “We were in the middle of the zebra crossing near the Printworks. We were halfway over it.

“[A cyclist] came flying down the hill, he must have picked up speed and he hit my son. My son flipped in the air and he dragged my son along the road.”
Stacey then says the man on the bike ‘tried to leave’ the scene but was stopped by ‘a group of people [who] surrounded him’. She continued: “He showed no remorse. I had to go [to hospital] but the security guards for the Arndale came out and radioed through for more people to come.”
Naturally, Stacey’s first thought was to care for her son, so she ‘went straight away’ to Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital, before police arrived at the scene of the collision. Fortunately, Coen has not suffered any major injuries.
She added: “He has got bruising on one side of his face. He has graze on his hip and shoulder, and bruising on his legs.
“They said he needs to have his stomach checked, but there’s no broken bones. I was a bit overwhelmed [at the time]. Now I know he is okay, I am angry. [The cyclist] had his phone out and he came through a zebra crossing.”
Greater Manchester Police has been contacted for comment.
