Mum's horror after 'shock' Leeds car crash on daughter's birthday

A mum has spoken out about a horror car crash she was involved in while her daughter was in the car.

Louise Stalnyj was visiting Leeds with her mum on Saturday, June 3, which she does regularly to see her daughter who stays at a residential children's home in the city. They were picked up from the bus station by her daughter's carer and began driving.

After a few minutes of travel, Louise says a white van came "out of nowhere" and hit their car. This took place on Roundhay Road, at around 11.10am.

She said: "I've literally seen a white van coming towards us and I thought 'that van's getting a bit close' and then the next few seconds went by in a blur. The white van had been parked in a bus lane for quite some time and suddenly decided he'd pull out when we were driving past."

Louise added: "I'm not being funny, I'm not a driver, but if you can't see something when you're pulling out, you shouldn't have a driver's licence."

Now, Louise, as someone who suffers from a bad hip and who suffers with arthritis, is suffering as a result of the crash. She has steroid injections to manage some of the pain, but the effect of the last set has now been reversed as a result of the crash.

Louise's daughter was also in the car and has been left "shaken". Louise said: "She's just shaken up. It was her eight birthday, it's not nice to happen anyway but especially not on the day we see her on her birthday.

"It kind of ruined the day for us, we had to go home. We'd only seen her for about an hour then we had to go home."

West Yorkshire Police have been contacted for comment.
