Mum's horror after finding 'piece of plastic' in supermarket chicken burger

A supermarket chain has apologised after a horrified mother found a piece of plastic in a frozen chicken burger. Luisa Collina was cooking dinner for her two children when she cut into a Morrisons chicken burger and came across something blue.

Morrisons has said sorry to Luisa, 42, after she discovered the small piece of plastic when she was preparing a meal for her kids Zana, who is severely autistic, and Enzo. The supermarket chain said the unwanted item in the chicken burger could have been from a food preparation glove, TeessideLive reports.

After contacting the chain on Facebook immediately about her discovery, Luisa, of Netherfields in Middlesbrough, said she was offered a voucher with money off her next shop, but feels the product needs to be completely removed from the shelves in case there are anymore bits of plastic in them.

When she spotted the plastic in the burger, Luisa immediately took out her phone to capture evidence and then shared the clip on social media site TikTok. "What the hell is this embedded in the burger?" she asks in the video. One commenter said the video had left her feeling "sick".

Luisa said she was glad her 12-year-old daughter Zana, for whom Luisa is a full-time carer for, hadn't seen the plastic because it would have put her off chicken for life.

She said: "I was making food and I have to cut the burgers up because my daughter is severely autistic, so I'm really glad that it did. When I cut it up I saw blue in the middle, and I was like, 'oh my gosh.'

"Even if [my daughter] had not eaten it and just seen it, it would have put her off anything chicken based. She's autistic but she's funny [with] eating, so it takes us a long time to eat things, and if she'd have seen that then that would've been it."

Luisa, who said her mother bought the product from the Berwick Hills store and that she doesn't usually shop at Morrisons, contacted the supermarket through Facebook messenger. She claims they offered her £10 to spend in-store as a "goodwill gesture," so long as she got a Morrisons card.

She explained: "I was like, 'is that it?' They knew what was wrong because they said to me it is a processing glove. I thought that they must know that. I wonder if the glove had fallen in and they've had reports and people contacting them apart from myself."

Luisa said she thinks there should be a product recall and that she won't buy anything from the supermarket again because of her find.

A Morrisons spokesperson said: "We have investigated the issue with our supplier and believe the plastic may have originated from food preparation gloves used at the site. We apologise to Ms Collina and wanted to offer a voucher off her next shop with us to say that we were sorry."
