A mum says she cradled her dead puppy in her arms after a horrific road accident caused by idiot yobs throwing bricks from an overhead bridge.
Traumatised Roxi Greenwood blew a tyre swerving in terror to miss a brick being dropped from the bridge on a road in York on Saturday, and pulled over to assess the damage.
But her 18-month-old sausage dog Dash, who was on the passenger seat at the time, became frightened by the noise, and escaped from the car's open window accidentally jumping into the path of an oncoming vehicle.
Mum-of-one Roxi had to pick Dash up off the road as fellow motorists who'd gotten out of their cars to help told her they'd seen children throwing the bricks.
Roxi, 38, told The Mirror she was so disturbed by seeing what happened and having to hold Dash's lifeless body, she'd struggled to sleep and was having to take medication.
"I keep getting flashbacks," she said. "I should have fastened him in properly, but I was in a rush.
"Dash was scared by the noise of the car. I put my hand on him to try and calm him down but he saw the open window and just checked out.
"When I picked him up, he had already gone.
"He was only 18 months. It's only me and my son at home, so without Dash, it's been very, very quiet."
Thankfully, Roxi's son was not in the car at the time as she had just dropped him off at his grandmother's to watch the Coronation celebrations.
"I'm so glad he wasn't in the car at the time. I don't think he'd have been able to deal with what I had to see.
"We are going to get a new puppy because my little boy is struggling without his best pal."
Despite the damage caused by Dash's death and the danger of the unthinkable happening in the crash, Roxi said she wasn't angry at the kids seen throwing the bricks.
"They are just children, but they have to learn," she said.
"It could have been so, so much worse. It could have been me.
"I can't get my head around it."
Police are also investigating the tragic collision, which happened at around 3.50pm on Saturday by the River Foss.
A spokesperson for North Yorkshire Police said: "Officers are keen to speak to anyone in the area who may have seen anyone on the bridge who was throwing stones into traffic.
"They'd be particularly keen to speak to any residents in the area who may have seen anyone acting suspiciously, or who has captured doorbell footage of the incident.
"They'd also like to speak to anyone who witnessed the collision, or captured dash cam footage."
