When you're a parent it's considered a massive win when you manage to repurpose a cheap item that was meant for something else, into something entirely different. It not only saves you a bit of money, but you'll also have friends and family asking where you bought that amazing item.
One mum has found a new use for the incredible £25 IKEA stool, without having to make any alterations – and fellow parents are calling her a 'genius'.
Beth, also known as the Budgeting Mum on social media, often shares money-saving hacks with her 83k TikTok followers – many of them relating to parenting.
In a recent video, Beth showed off an IKEA hack using the Swedish furniture store's Tenhult step stool, which is made of bamboo and can be purchased for a very reasonable £25.
She then demonstrated how her one-year-old and three-year-old children use them as "perfect little portable table and chairs" as well as using them to reach high places, such as helping her cook.
Beth captioned the video: "IKEA hack! These £25 IKEA stools are so useful in our house! As well as being a step for the kids to help with cooking etc, they make the perfect little tables and hair!"
The kids sit on the lower step facing in, and their legs go in-between all four legs – then they can use the top step as a table.
Fellow parents were amazed with the hack. As well as taking up extra space, table and chairs for kids can end up costing over £100, depending on the brand.
One mum commented on the video saying: "No this is actually genius!! Rather than buying a chair and a table. This is brilliant!!! So many more mums need to see this."
Another said: "So cute! You could put them opposite each other and have a little dinner date."
A third commented: "We used to do that!!! Fab aren't they!" while a fourth simply said: "This is genius."
"Not me spending £100+ on a stool that converts into a table when I could have just bought this."
Some parents pointed out that there is a risk of the child falling backwards, but the mum replied saying: "They're never unsupervised".
