Mum's 'faith in people renewed' after Liverpool FC fan steps in over cancelled tickets

A kind stranger saved the day after a devastated mum of two's Liverpool match tickets were cancelled.

Debbie Davies, 51, bought Liverpool FC v Manchester United match tickets for her two children as a present after their step-dad, Matthew, died suddenly. Izaac, 11, and Izabella, 15, were 'so excited' when their mum told them she bought the £130 tickets from Seatsnet.

However just a few days later Seatsnet emailed to say they had cancelled the tickets and sent over a refund, without giving a reason. Debbie says when she saw the email her 'heart sank' and she went to tell her son what happened.

She said: "I was devastated when I saw the email. I went to tell Izaac and he said back to me 'it's alright mum, it's not your fault', which made me even more upset at how well he took it. I tried my hardest to ask the company why this happened but I didn't get a response.

"I think it's awful they can get away with this. In that time I had paid £87 for a hotel as we live in Wales. I love him so much and I am at a loss as to what to do. They have had the worst year since Matthew died and I just wanted to do something nice to cheer them up."

A total stranger, who asked to remain anonymous, read Debbie's story on The ECHO website and contacted us saying he may be able to help. He said wanted to help the family with the hope of "restoring faith in people".

Debbie said she was in 'utter shock' when she spoke to the kind stranger, and praised Liverpool fans for all the support they had given her.

She said: "When I told him (Izacc) he didn’t believe me, his words were 'I can’t believe someone could be so kind to us, mum'. This kind man’s granddaughter had contacted him as she’d seen our story and wanted to help us.

"We are all still in utter shock because it’s above and beyond anything we dreamed of. We are touched that they’ve been this generous.

"I’m super grateful to The ECHO for just giving us the chance to tell our story and I realise that some may feel it’s not newsworthy but when you’re a mum and you see your child in pain from the loss of his dad you’ll do anything absolutely anything to help take that pain away.

"This has gone a long way to do that and I’ve had so many lovely reactions from the Liverpool fans, all of them wishing us the best and telling us YNWA. What a great bunch of people - it’s renewed my faith in people."
