Mum replied 'that's heavy that' after being arrested for attempted murder

A mum replied "that's heavy that" after being arrested on suspicion of attempted murder.

Emma Walsh is currently standing trial at Liverpool Crown Court accused of murdering her boyfriend Gary Morgan. The 31-year-old knifed her partner in the heart after the pair watched the football together in the pub, then claimed he had been stabbed by "some fella in town".

Yesterday afternoon, Wednesday, a transcript taken from video footage recorded on the body worn camera of a police officer who attended the scene on Lavan Close in Everton was read to the jury. Walsh was described as being "clearly upset and crying" as she was led from the living room, where paramedics were tending to a critically injured Mr Morgan, and taken outside.

She then told Police Constable Gary Morson: "That's my partner, I should be with him. Gary, come on lad - get up.

"We were having a drink. We were at the Belmont watching the match."

Walsh laughed as she said of Liverpool FC's game at title rivals Manchester City: "2-2, phew. Manchester City didn't win.

"Gary, come on my love - come on. It's my son's birthday.

"Dad, is he ok? Please let me know.

"We've both had cocaine and we're both alcoholics. We were at it every day.

"It's hard. Please come on baby."

Walsh asked to "go with him" in the ambulance, but was instead told she was being arrested on suspicion of attempted murder. Sobbing, she said: "Why?"

"I've done nothing wrong, I wouldn't. Let me see my dad before I go.

"Attempted murder though. That's heavy that."

Walsh, who later claimed she was acting in self-defence, said she was "scared" and told the officer she had bipolar disorder, adding: "Dad, come and see me before I go. Dad, they're taking my phone and my kids."

She threw her phone to the floor as she was searched. When told the device would have to be seized, she replied: "It's not, I'll give you the password."

Upon being escorted to a police van, Walsh said: "Don't put me in the back of a f***ing police van, put me in a car. I promise it's my son's birthday tomorrow."

She then arrived at Wavertree Road Police Station shortly after midnight, where she was further arrested on suspicion of murder following Mr Morgan's death in hospital. The defendant "became extremely upset, slumped down and started crying".

Walsh said: "Gary, bring him back. He was everything for me.

"I was the one doing CPR. Sometimes I do things I can't remember, but we're all only human."

Giving evidence as a witness, PC Morson told the court: "She was very upset by what was going on. She also appeared quite intoxicated - she was slurring her words and quite unsteady on her feet."

A recording of the 999 call Walsh made to the North West Ambulance Service was then played to the court. She told the operator "he's gone purple in the face" and was not breathing, then stated Mr Morgan had "had an argument in town with some fella" and "come back home with a puncture wound to his side".

The killer appeared to be crying in the dock with her head in her hands as the clip was aired. In it, she added: "He's going blue in the face, he's just cold."

Witnesses also gave evidence relating to a history of domestic violence between the couple during their year-long relationship. Lee Taylor, who described himself as Mr Morgan's "best friend", described having seen the deceased with a black eye after Walsh attacked him with a rake while he was "on a job" as part of his paving business.

The childhood pal said on the stand: "Gary said they had a few arguments and that. He didn't really tell me much, what they were arguing over.

"Gary said she had some kind of mental health problems. He told me she had given him a black eye.

"I think it was towards Christmas time. He told me she hit him with a rake."

Mr Taylor had been with Mr Morgan and Walsh as they watched the match in the back room of the Belmont, the West Derby Road pub being "quite busy because it was Grand National weekend". He said: "There was no argument throughout the day or night, it was a good day."

Richard Pratt KC, defending, said that Walsh had hugged a man she knew while inside the premises and asked if this had "caused a bit of fraction". But Mr Taylor replied: "No it didn't, there was no arguing or nothing."

He also stated that he was unaware that Mr Morgan - from Prescot - had been arrested on suspicion of an assault on February 19, and was later released on bail under the condition that he was not to contact Walsh.

Her neighbour John Daly spoke of an incident between the couple at around 10.30pm on the night in question. He had been waiting to watch Match of the Day 2 on the television when he saw them outside in the street, returning from the pub.

Mr Daly told the court: "I just thought they were a regular couple. I would see them arguing sometimes.

"I heard an argument, I looked out the window. I seen the girlfriend throwing punches and trying to scratch him.

"They were basically having a fight, but mainly her. I seen two people arguing and the girl throwing punches."

Mr Daly said Walsh's punched were landing, and she was attempting to scratch Mr Morgan's face. He added: "He was saying 'get away from me'."

This altercation lasted a "couple of minutes". Mr Daly said: "They seemed to be arguing, but not shouting loud.

"It could have been a friendly argument. I don't know."

Mr Daly said he saw Walsh "push him away", adding: "Whether that was friendly or not friendly, I don't know.

"They seemed to stop, and they seemed to be having words. I seen the girl's hand go up to the boy.

"He seemed to jerk back. If they were playing around or arguing, I couldn't really say."

Walsh denies one count of murder. The trial continues.
