Mum regrets son's name after realising 'unintentional' meaning nine months later

A mum has been left regretting the name she chose for her son after realising its 'unintentional' second meaning - nine months after his birth.

Sharing her story online, the anonymous woman explained that she has a nine-year-old son called Leo and then along came her second baby - Griffin.

However, she later realised that some people may think his name is a reference to the mythical animal, and when said along with her older child's name think she was going for a theme.

She tried giving her youngest the nickname Finn, but says it felt 'unnatural' and is now left wishing she could go back and change his name entirely, according to the Mirror.

Taking to Reddit, the woman said: "My son is nine months old and named Griffin. I love his name and I love calling him Griff. That is not my problem.

"My problem is the unintentional theme between his name and my older son's, Leo.

"It was so unintentional. I realised it right before naming him but convinced myself it didn't bother me.

"However, nine months in and I still cannot let this go and I really, really wish I could.

"I have tried nicknaming him Fin but that feels unnatural and I find myself daydreaming about different names entirely."

Soon the woman was inundated with comments from other Reddit users, but not everyone could understand her concern.

One said: "I'm sorry but this is kind of ridiculous - the griffin is a mythical beast, not a real animal. If anybody notices, they will probably think it's the coolest thing ever. People love patterns and themes."

Then another commented: "I think the connection is cute. People just might think you’re really into lions. The names go well together."

And a third added: "I'm not sure I see the problem even when you know there's a connection. They're your cubs. That's adorable."
