A mother has spoken of her confusion after repeatedly being told how "unique" her son's name is. The continuous nature of the comments has caused her to become annoyed, and has even made her encourage others to use the name for their own children.
The mother took to Reddit to speak of her anguish, even including the reaction of the nurse in the hospital. Most who interacted with the post agreed the name was distinctive, though many said that it should be more common,The Mirror reports.
In her post, the American mum explained: "We named our baby boy Soren and a lot of people where I live have never heard it before. When my boyfriend suggested it I thought it sounded like a regular name even though it's uncommon. I had definitely heard it before even if I didn't remember where, but people keep telling me it's so 'unique.'"
But she has not taken the comments in a positive light, as they have lead to major misunderstandings: "When a nurse came into my hospital room after he was born, she read his name on the dry erase board and referred to the baby as 'her'," the mum revealed, before she asked: "Is the name really that strange?"
The mother insisted she had researched the name prior to Soren's birth, but her planning did not come to much good.
"I like his name still, but I'm kind of frustrated people think my boyfriend and I were trying to make a statement about how unique and creative we are," she concluded. "I'm literally encouraging others to name their baby boys Soren so we aren't so 'unique'."
However many reassured her, pointing out that the Scandinavian name is only uncommon in certain parts of the world, with one user commenting: "I work for a Scandinavian company and there are at least 50 Sorens. I work directly with four of them!"
