Mum recreates pricey £1,200 Crittall doors for just £10

Decorating your home can be expensive and often disheartening when items are way out of our budget.

Lorraine Kafanke, a 37-year-old mum from Cumbria, found herself longing for some Crittall doors that were over £1,200.

To save money, she decided to try and make them herself using paint and electrical tape.

The result? A dupe of the luxurious looking doors for less than £10.

Lorraine told LatestDeals.co.uk : "I came up with the idea when I saw some doors online I really wanted but couldn’t afford.

"I thought 'why not try and create the look myself on a much cheaper scale?’

"I hated the doors before.”

Her current doors didn’t match the style or look of her home, but as she was gifted them for free, she didn’t want them to go to waste.

She said: “I just used electrical tape, which cost 79p, and measured out four equal sections to create a glass panel look.

“I wasn’t sure the tape would work but it’s easily removed if the look didn’t suit.

“It was a little tricky getting the tape straight but a few attempts and I was happy!”

Lorraine used Johnstones matt black gloss paint for the wood which cost her £8.99 a tin and did two thin coats.

She continued: "The process took about three days because of the drying time between coats.

"I also masked up the glass to get a nice neat finish with the paint and gave the glass a really good clean before applying the black tape.

“I’m so pleased with how they’ve turned out.

"I love doing things on a budget so it was very satisfying to create a look for such small cost and effort.”

From doing this, she saved well over £1,000, and managed to create something she wanted for less than £10.
