Mum-of-five from Lawrence Weston 'snapped' and trashed car of suspected love rival

A Lawrence Weston mum-of-five trashed a suspected love rival's car, a court heard - and she's finally been ordered to pay for the damage.

Lisa Bishop offered to pay for the destruction she caused over a year ago, Bristol magistrates were told. But after she exchanged words with the victim the incident was reported to police - and remained in the criminal justice system to finally be dealt with yesterday (December 28).

Bishop, 36, of Lawrence Weston Road, pleaded guilty to causing criminal damage under £5,000 in June last year. Magistrates ordered her to fully compensate the victim for the £397.50 damage caused.

Jane Cooper, prosecuting, said the complainant parked her car in Bristol in June last year. When she returned she found it had a dented roof and a smashed back window.

Bristol Magistrates' Court heard a crime scene investigator swabbed blood spots found on the vehicle. That was later confirmed to have Bishop's DNA.

Miss Cooper said two days after the attack Bishop contacted the victim, apologised and said she would pay for the damage. But after phone calls in which Bishop became abusive the matter was reported to police, the court heard.

Bishop told police she took full, lone responsibility for the offence. She stated she was going through a rough time with her partner, who had talked to the victim, and Bishop had gone to confront her but damaged her car instead.

Jennifer Stetson, defending, said: "She is appalled by her behaviour and very sorry. Her ex-partner planted a seed in her mind that he was having a relationship with the complainant.

"Whether that is true or not we don't know. She snapped."
