A mum-of-five has shown off her mammoth food shop costing £2,762 that she says will keep her family fed for six months.
Mum Tabitha lends a new meaning to doing the ‘big shop’ as she likes to get all her grocery shopping out of the way in one go - popping to the shops just once or twice a year.
The gigantic food shop takes Tabitha, who lives in Michigan, all day - she arrives at bulk retailer Costco as soon as the doors open and she is still packing food away come nightfall.
The economy-minded mum says its worth the effort to have enough food for her family for up to six months, but storage is a problem, with items stacked around their home in corridors and even bathrooms.
Speaking in a recent YouTube video, she explained: “We are a family of seven and we have five kids and this is just what works for us, not everybody would like to make this huge haul in one trip but that’s just how we like to do it.
“We’re hoping about four to six months that this will last us.”
She and her husband have clearly purchased enough to feed an army, as their £3,000 stockpile includes 10 dozen eggs, 20 packs of butter, a year’s worth of rice, and six bumper jars of olive oil.
Tabitha also stocked up on 24 chicken breasts, 95 bags of crisps, enough mince to make at least 15 meals for the family and 22 packets of pasta.
Buying the mega shop is the easy part, finding somewhere to put it all when she gets home is the real challenge, Tabitha explained.
Tabitha says: “This Costco haul is like an all day event. We headed out right away when they opened at 10am right now it’s 4pm and we’re still going.
“By the time I’m done putting everything away it will probably be nighttime.”
The family have storage space in their basement, but have so much food that they’re often forced to store items in the hallway and even the bathroom.
Tabitha added: “We are so grateful that we are able to buy this food for our entire family and feed them for months on end.
"It’s really worth it even though it takes all day."
