A woman has been left gobsmacked after realising her husband has been spelling their five-month-old's name wrong - and blaming the mistake on autocorrect. She explained how she noticed all of her husband's friend spelling out their son's name as Issac rather than Isaac, as is what is written on his birth certificate.
While both spellings are commonly used today, Isaac is considered to be the original spelling as it comes from the Bible as the son of Abraham. She said: "I've been wondering why all of my husband’s friends spell it Issac. I realised that they spell it that way because he spells it that way.
"He announced it that way, that is how he refers to him in all his messages. He sends his grandma photo postcards and that is how he spells his name on those."
When she confronted her husband about his mistake, he blamed autocorrect for swapping the spelling without him noticing.
She added on Reddit: "It has really annoyed me! As a one off it’s fine, autocorrect is silly, but it's every time and he's never noticed?
"He hasn't even noticed that everyone else now does the same thing. Mind blown. If someone spells my baby’s name wrong to me then I definitely notice because he's my flipping baby."
But her husband isn't the only person in her life having problems with their son's name, as her father-in-law has been pronouncing it wrong since being introduced to his grandson.
"He pronounces it i-Zak (like an Apple product) even though we have told him multiple times how to say it," she said.
"I did not expect these issues with such a common name. I Googled it and apparently it's been in the top 1,000 since the 1880s."
While most users couldn't help but laugh at her husband's mistake, others urged her to edit her husband's autocorrect settings to prevent it from happening again.
One user said: "I wonder if you purposely misspelled it in a few texts to him (Isaacc, Issaacc, Eyesac) if maybe your husband would question it.
"Then you could let him know that he's the one misspelling it. Maybe keeping it light-hearted and joking about it will keep him from getting his feelings hurt."
Another user added: "You can go into his phone and set it to Isaac - it just keeps giving Issac because he misspelled enough times."
A third user said: "I have an Isaac. For his 5th birthday, my husband went to pickup the birthday cake and didn't check the cake before taking it to the party. When we opened it, we saw that it said HAPPY BIRTHDAY ISSAC!"
