Mum left terrified her baby boy will be bullied at school over 'rude initials'

A mum has been left terrified that her baby boy will be bullied at school over his "rude initials". The parent is also concerned that she might have chosen a "girl's name" for her son, reports the Mirror.

She took to social media to explain that she has already chosen the name for her child, who is expected to be born in a few weeks. The woman says she and her partner grew up outside the UK, and are worried they might miss certain "cultural nuances".

Posting on Reddit, she said: "I'm stumped with this one. For context, my partner and I grew up outside the UK and at times miss very slight cultural nuances."

The mother shared that they want to call their son Bailey, but they are "a little concerned that Bailey is a girl's name." She also revealed that the child would have the initials BJ, because his surname would start with a J.

The woman continued: "Am I setting him up to get bullied in school? What do kids in the UK think of unisex names? Are the initials going to invite bullying? Perhaps I am being overly cautious but this is something we can't change later. My partner absolutely loves the name."

The mum's moniker issue sparked interest on social media, with people quick to share their thoughts on the name. The post divided a lot of people, with some agreeing Bailey is a lovely name that can be used for any gender.

One person said: "Bailey is very much a boys name. And no, not setting him up to fail with the initials either, especially if you give them a middle name etc." Another added: "Bailey is a lovely boy's name it would have been my choice for a second son if I had one."

However, others warned the mum to change the name before it is too late to save the child any upset at school. One social media user stated: "BJ would be mercilessly teased. I think it is important to avoid difficult initials and names that are too weird or pompous."

Another agreed: "My birth name was a girl's name. Do not do this to your son. Also the easy open-goal of BJ. Try not to forget they're going to go to a British secondary school one day."
