Mum left devastated as DNA kit confirms her boyfriend is a blood relative

A woman has been left feeling devastated and sick to her stomach after realising her boyfriend is closer to her in relation than she realised.

The 32-year-old was told the life-changing news by her boyfriend, after he decided to use an at-home DNA kit to find out more about his family history, reports the Mirror.

The boyfriend, named Miguel, was aiming to seek out his biological parents, but never expected to find out he had a 'blood connection' with his life partner.

Taking to online social forum Reddit, the woman said: "I just found out my boyfriend, 23, is related to me - I don't know what to do. The only people who know are me, my boyfriend, and my doctor."

The mum is currently pregnant with her boyfriend's second child, and is worried there could be something genetically 'wrong' with her. She added: "We have a son together, and a daughter on the way. He also just adopted my son [from a pervious relationship].

"My doctor told me that my relationship with Miguel was likely a result of Genetic Sexual Attraction, which occurs when you're separated from a family member who you likely never met/never remember meeting, or even just being separated for many years."

The DNA results revealed that the boyfriend's mother turned out to be the woman's 39-year-old sister, Vanessa, who ran away from home as a teenager.

She said: "Vanessa was a troubled child. She ran away at aged 15 and we have never heard from her since."

After her sister left home, the woman turned her attention to climbing the industry ladder in her corporate job - but this was placed on hold as she fell pregnant with her first son.

The woman explained: "I have only been in two relationships. [The first being with] my baby daddy, who left me when he found out I was pregnant. He went to prison and was killed there.

"[My other was] a girlfriend who I ended it with after she went to prison [too].

"We started dating after my baby daddy left, while I was pregnant. She was actually going to adopt my son but then only two days before I gave birth, she was arrested.

"Ever since, I have only focused on my job and son."

Following this, the woman was transferred to a new state with her job, and provided her with a much needed fresh start.

The mum continued: "My son and I moved away from relatives and to be honest, I love it better where I am at now.

"A few days after settling there, I met my boyfriend, Miguel, who was 20 at the time. He was a intern as a part time job during college.

"Our relationship started as a fling but then it got serious. I ended up pregnant and had my second son, aged two, and now I'm currently seven-months pregnant. My oldest son recognises Miguel as his father.

"The thing about Miguel is that he was adopted, he knew his whole life (we are Hispanic, his parents are white).

"He also was definitely mixed with something. He was told his birth mother was Hispanic, so his father was likely another race.

"Last year, Miguel did an Ancestry DNA test, which he found out he was half-Hispanic, half-Chinese.

"After the DNA test, he was interesting in finding his birth parents. He had the contact information at 18, but he was not interested at the time.

"Well, he was able to get his birth mother's name, Vanessa [surname removed].

"I joked that my half-sister had the same name, but we looked at the medical report which gave information about Vanessa.

"It showed that Vanessa was a minor, aged 16, who signed away her rights and left no contact information. No father was listed."

Now feeling uneasy, the woman ordered her own DNA kit to get to the bottom of things - and nothing could have prepared the family for the upcoming news.

She said: "[The DNA test] confirmed that the two Vanessa's were the same, meaning Miguel is my nephew - I feel nauseas."

After visiting with a doctor, she was relieved to hear there's nothing wrong with her two children fathered by Miguel - but admits her relationship with him is now on the rocks.

She explained: "Miguel is currently staying at a hotel but to be honest, I really want him back. After we talked, we felt the same way.

"I don't know what to do. I'm just so confused. We are still in love."

Commenting on her post, one user said: "If this were me I'd just take it to the grave. Don’t tell anyone.

"You already have two kids with him. You both want the same thing. You didn’t know you were related until far too late, and he’s your half-nephew not your full nephew.

"It’s not quite as bad as full nephew and as long as the kids are healthy, then f*** it."

Another user added: "Remove your data from the DNA website. It is up to you. The main problem is genetic and you are fine on that one.

"You have children together so you will always be connected with him, so you cannot exactly ignore him anyway.

"Take some time to process this and look after yourself for the baby."

A third user said: "No no, just no. This was wrong from the very beginning. You were 29 and started dating a 20-year-old intern. Were you his superior at work?

"But you didn't stop there, did you? You went and had two kids with him and now he's adopted your first son.

"Does nobody see anything wrong with this picture? Everyone here is advising you to hide this and delete your DNA profile but no one wants to acknowledge that your behaviour was/predatory.

"So let's just bury the truth with keeping in line with your indecent behaviour.

"This young man is going to realise a few years from now how you basically robbed him of his best years with your recklessness. I can't believe this."
