A mum has shared a devastating warning about child teething necklaces after a baby boy was strangled to death by one.
On TikTok, Danielle warned parents about the dangers of baby products like amber teething necklaces after a follower shared their tot's love for his teething toy.
In a video posted to the social media platform, Danielle said: "We also loved our amber teething necklace until it strangled my son to death.
"Know better do better! Child safety isn't a parenting choice, it's a duty!"
Amber teething necklaces are jewellery made from Baltic amber that is supposed to help babies who are teething.
It is believed that small amounts of succinic acid from the amber gets absorbed into the baby's gums while they are sucking the product and that helps sooth their painful mouth while their first teeth are coming through, reports Tyla.
The heartbroken mum lost her 18-month-old son after he allegedly choked on his necklace during nap time at a southern California day care centre.
Her son, Deacon Ryan Morin, was critically injured at the Little Impressions Daycare in Fontana on October 5, 2016.
The baby boy died after being taken off life support five days later.
Danielle had another baby, conceiving as a single mum, in 2019, but she will never stop grieving for her first-born.
As well as raising her little one, two-year-old Rhett, she is using her social media to campaign for and promote child safety.
Her videos sharing content like warnings against amber necklaces have become hugely popular on TikTok, with other parents posting their gratitude that she is raising awareness.
"I want you to know that I bought one before my daughter was born and your awareness saved me from ever putting it on my daughter. Thank you," commented one user.
Someone else said: "I was contemplating buying one and now I won’t because of this video. Thank you mama and so so sorry for your loss."
Moving into the future Danielle will continue spreading the word about the dangers of certain products to babies and children.
She is also campaigning for stronger regulation around products on marketplaces such as Etsy, which is where the mum got her amber necklace.
In 2018 the US Food and Drugs Administration (FDA) released a serious risk of choking and strangulation warning around amber necklaces.
The Mirror has contacted Etsy for a comment.
