Mum in tears in Iceland after hero steps in to feed her family for a week

A mum was reduced to tears in an Iceland when she got to the till and couldn't afford to pay for her shopping - only for a hero to step in and help cover the cost. The mum said the move meant she and her family now had food for the week.

The woman shared the touching gesture on Facebook in a bid to find the mystery shopper. She wrote: "Thank you so much to the lady in Iceland today who paid for £10 of our shopping. I was in the middle of a breakdown with not being able to afford our food and the embarrassment of having to put stuff back.

"It’s thanks to you that we now have food for the week. The world needs more people like you."

The woman said she had a toddler and often has to borrow money from family members and food banks to get by, reports BirminghamLive. She said: "She was all I could think about while eating, if it wasn’t for her our stomachs would be empty - she's a true hero.

"I know we said thank you about 20 times, but I’d love to thank her again. She’s put food in our stomachs for the week and I couldn’t be more grateful.

"It's not easy as I have a 15-month-old son to look after and I have to lend money off family members sometimes, just to get by and food banks help as well. But it’s people like this woman who mean a lot to me - it could've been her last £10 for all I knew."

People replied to the post with support and praise. Robert Jones said: "Being so kind at a moment in time is treasure .. whoever you are thank you." Jo Prescott said: "It's so lovely to hear these random acts of kindness, I'm so pleased for you and thank you to the very kind lady."

Karly Barrett said: "What a beautiful thing to do, so there are decent people left in this world, they are just very rare." Adam Hampton wrote: "What a nice kind gesture that person was to help another person out as they were struggling to afford food to put on their table. I'm so proud of them - well done."
