Mum in stitches as shop mistakenly gives her crude name in loyalty card blunder

A woman was left in stitches when she noticed a mistake on her loyalty card after the member of staff misheard her name. Kate Hall had been shopping at Lakeland in Llanelli, Wales, after taking her daughter Poppy for an eye appointment nearby.

When Kate got to the till, the assistant asked her if she wanted to join the loyalty scheme and would give her name for the loyalty card which she accepted.

So Kate said her name and left the store with her three kids, and thought nothing of it, only to find the glaring mistake when the card arrived in the post two weeks later.

When the post arrived and she saw the name on the card, she was left in stitches to find the name on the card was 'Miss A Hole'.

Commenting on the hilarious mistake, Kate said: "It came through the door and I just laughed as soon as I looked at it. It's not even just on the letter - it's on the back of the plastic card as well.

"I think I'll put it in the see-through part of my purse instead of my driver's licence.

"The shop assistant's gone completely off track with everything. I don't know if it's down to my Welsh accent because she was also Welsh."

Kate went onto say that the shop assistant asked her what her title was and asked for the initials so was shocked to read the resulting name on the card.

She explained: "Then she asked for my surname and I said 'Hall', and I always spell out my surname because companies have misheard my name on the phone before.

"She put the details into the computer then gave me a temporary card and said my official card would come through the post.

"You'd think that she would've thought it was odd at the time.

"So for two weeks I was blissfully unaware that as far as Lakeland thought, my name is 'Miss A Hole'."

When Kate shared the news with her friends and family many were beside themselves thinking of reasons she deserved this new name.

"My family joked it was either some form of passive aggression, or the woman completely misunderstood it and was oblivious to the fact she'd put 'A Hole'.

"You have to treat these things with a sense of humour, but I imagine some people would be quite offended.

"It's a bit of a badge of honour and a funny thing to tell people.

"I might as well keep it until it expires."

In response, a spokesperson for Lakeland said: "In a busy store environment, our store colleague misheard our customer when registering them for our myLakeland club.

"Our customer service team were quick to pick up Miss Hall’s tweet and have contacted her to arrange an update to her details.

"We’d like to thank Miss Hall for her understanding and good humour."
