A young boy almost swallowed a pill he found in a bag of Doritos, his mum has said.
Leon Singleton, from Bathgate, West Lothian was chomping his way through a sharer pack of chilli-heatwaves crisps on Monday when he pulled out a small orange item.
His mum Lorna was flabbergasted when he showed her the pill, the Daily Record reported.
The mum-of-two, who couldn't remember which shop she bought the crisps in, said: "He was so excited because he thought it was a wee sweet.
"Just as he was about to eat it, he said 'look mummy, I found a sweet in my crisps'."
In disbelief, Lorna quickly told Leon to stop eating the crisps and confiscated the orange tablet.
She said: "When I looked at it, I was shocked. I couldn't believe it was in amongst his crisps.
"I don't know exactly what it is, but it looks like a pill of some sort .It's not plastic, it's smooth like a pill and does look really like one. It looked like it had been turned orange from the flavouring of the crisps.
"It's scary to think about if he had eaten it what would have happened.
"You don't expect to find anything like that in your food. I'm glad I didn't give him a packet at school as I wouldn't have been there for him to show me it and he might have eaten it."
Lorna immediately complained to Walkers, the company who produces Doritos.
The crisps giant has asked her to send the item back to them in a prepaid envelope.
Lorna added: "Friends and family are advising me to only send half of the tablet back in case the other half gets lost in the post.
"I had considered looking into getting the tablet analysed myself."
A Doritos spokesperson said: “We take all complaints very seriously and the safety and quality of our products are our top priorities.
"We have robust quality control procedures at all of our manufacturing sites.
"Given all these controls it’s very unlikely that such an item would have been found in a bag of Doritos.
“We have asked the customer to return the product to us so that we may further investigate these claims.”
