Mum has teachers rate her baby name choices - and gets brutally honest responses

Everyone has opinions about baby names and certain things they associate with them, which is why picking one can be such a challenge for parents.

To get ahead of this, one parent has turned to the internet to ask teachers to rate what they think of her list of potential names for boys and girls.

It's a pretty clever move, as teachers spend their time with a lot of children and as such, may have names they link to bad behaviour or negative traits.

Taking to BabyCentre's Baby Name group, one user wrote: "I'm a big believer in people living up to their names and my sister is a teacher and said she would see similarities with kids who shared a name.

"So if you're a teacher could you let me know if any of these names are on your approved list of lovely boys and girls haha!"

She then listed Hugo and Augustus as potential boys' names and Sadie, Edie, Bridget, Lilly, and Beatrice as her top picks for girls.

Dozens of people responded to her post, with many teachers sharing their brutally honest thoughts on the names.

One person said they approved of Hugo, Beatrice, Edie, Lilly, and Sadie, but weren't a fan of Augustus or Bridget, which warranted a big "nooo" from them.

Another commented: "I'm a teacher and surprisingly never taught a child with [most] of these names. Definitely taught a few Lillys! All the Lillys (and Lilys and Lillies) have been lovely children."

Someone else believed it all came down to the choice of spellings for certain names, suggesting: "Lilly is naughty but Lily is lovely?!

"Never taught an Edie but every single Evie I've taught has been an absolute delight.

"Haven't taught any children with the other names. I like Sadie. Hugo and Augustus I would imagine to be really posh."

While a different user posted: "Teacher in a secondary school here. I approve all your names. None are on my naughty list."

However, this sentiment wasn't shared by everyone, as a fifth proclaimed: "Not a teacher but a nursery worker and Lily's were always whiners but judging by the above comments they outgrew it lol.

"I've known one little Hugo and he was adorable. I also love the name Augustus."

While a teaching assistant added: "Hugo - known two both polite little boys if not a bit lacking in confidence.

"Augustus - never had one in a classroom I've been in but there was a Gus and he was a cheeky wee skitter but wonderful with it.

"Sadie - never had one in the classroom but my friend has one and she is highly confident, a little cheeky, and very outspoken but all in such a lovely way, she is brilliant and funny.

"Evie - I've known many and they have ranged from very naughty to very nice.

"Bridget - never known one but not a name I personally like.

"Lilly - known many varied spellings of this and they have ranged from very shy and sweet to incredibly mischievous but sweet.

"Beatrice - never known one but I love the name."
