A plane had to make an emergency landing as a woman gave birth during the flight.
A flight from Managua, the capital of Nicaragua, to Miami, Florida, in the US, unexpectedly made a stopover in Cancun when a woman onboard gave birth.
The unknown woman from Nicaragua went into labour on Thursday, May 25 as the plane was in Mexican airspace.
The pilot promptly executed an emergency landing in Cancun, Mexico, where first responders assisted the woman.
In a video, airport staff in Mexico can be seen transporting the woman off the aircraft, which appears to be filled with humid air due to the functioning air conditioning.
Fellow passengers congratulate her exclaiming in Spanish "¡Felicidades!" and offer applause in celebration of the new life.
Another video captures the scene from a different perspective, showing an emergency worker holding the newborn baby wrapped in an emergency warmth blanket.
The woman, presumably the mother, is being prepared for transportation off the aircraft, which reportedly is an Airbus A320-200.
Following the incident, the plane was able to resume its journey to Miami.
Local media sources indicate that specific laws determine the nationality of a child born on an aircraft.
In this case, the child is eligible for Mexican citizenship because she was born within Mexican airspace, and the plane made a landing in Mexico.
