Mum fumes as Argos delivers £500 mismatched 'frankensofa' in different colours

A mum has been left raging after ordering a £500 sofa from Argos, only to receive each half in a different colour because the retailer had ran out of stock.

Sara Hudgell ordered the charcoal Harry Right Corner Fabric Sofa last week, and was initially over the moon when delivery men turned up just give days later.

However, the 26-year-old's excitement quickly turned to fury, when her husband Greg Hudgell removed the plastic wrapping and they discovered each piece was a different colour.

Unwrapping the entire piece of furniture they soon discovered they'd taken delivery of the correct model but in two different colours - charcoal and beige.

Sara assumed it was a simple mix up, so she called the delivery driver in the hopes they could easily swap the wrong half for the right colour, but she was gobsmacked when he told her it was not a mistake and she would have to take it up with Argos.

When the mental health worker flagged the mismatched mistake to Argos, she claims she was told she could keep it, return it or pay to upgrade to another model but would have to pay the difference.

Sara, from Swansea, said: "I'm still stuck upstairs because of this, I'm so angry. You couldn't make it up, it's just a complete shambles.

"We phoned the delivery guy back and said 'we think you have made a mistake and the other half of our sofa is in your van'. He said it would have to go through Argos - even though it was just 20 minutes since he left.

"I felt very frustrated as he had only just left. I'm still stuck upstairs because of this, I'm so angry. You couldn't make it up, it's just a complete shambles."

The mum-of-one said she was offered an "insulting" £30 compensation for their troubles, but has now been left "stuck upstairs" nursing and caring for three-week-old Arthur Hudgell, as she doesn't want to mark the sofa before it's collected.

Argos said Sara's experience did 'not meet their usual high standards' and said they have provided a full refund for the sofa and arranged for the sofa to be collected.

However, Sara said after contacting Argos she was told that she had three options - keep the mismatched sofa, exchange for another more expensive model that they would need to foot the difference for or get a refund.

This situation come just a couple of weeks after they ordered a £700 range oven from Argos, only for it to arrive damaged and needing to be replaced.

Sara said: "It's just ridiculous. We were told we had the wrong half because the grey was out of stock and they couldn't provide the other half of the sofa we wanted.

"I would never buy from Argos again. We both have Argos credit cards but have decided to cancel them, they're not having any more purchases from us. It's so appalling it's laughable. It seems like one big joke, like someone is having a laugh."

When Argos was contacted for comment they offered to speed up the refund for Sara and offered £50 cash.

An Argos spokesperson said: "We're in touch with Sara and Greg to apologise for their experiences, which do not meet our usual high standards.

"We have provided a full refund for the sofa as well as an additional gesture of goodwill. We're also arranging for the mismatched sofa, which was delivered in error, to be collected."
