Many parents would love to spoil their children, and that's just what one family has done for a baby's first Christmas. Unfortunately, the mum's huge gift haul has sparked controversy as many have slammed her for going way overboard with her gift-giving.
Taking to Facebook to share a picture of the huge present haul, the mum asked: "Has anyone else's parents gone crazy for baby's first Christmas?". The picture shows what looks like more than 100 presents, including Peter Rabbit clothes, books, plush toys and teething toys.
What was meant as a lighthearted post massively backfired, with commenters outraged at how many gifts there were, with one dubbing it "ridiculous".
One person commented: "Sorry I don't want to be a negative Nancy, and I mean no offence by this, but this is ridiculous. He is a baby and will never remember all of these things."
Another said: "Don't be offended when the baby gets over unwrapping after the second gift," according to 7NEWS.
A third added: "I'm just imagining how many batteries you'll be replacing. Our toys all seem to go dead at the same time and suddenly I need multiple bulk packs of batteries at once."
However, not everyone thought the gifts were over the top, with some saying it's perfectly normal to want to make a tot's first Christmas special.
One person said: "I actually love this and love seeing these kinds of posts for other kids!"
Another said: "I grew up homeless, without gifts, food, necessities due to being in an abusive and neglected home/foster homes and it really makes my heart happy to see others spoilt".
Later, the mum felt the need to respond to the stir caused by the photo, saying it was meant to be a light-hearted post, but that she was very aware that there are a lot of people who are "less fortunate," which is why some of the presents have now been donated.
According to 7NEWS, she also confirmed that all the presents were bought by the baby's grandmother for her only grandchild's first Christmas.
Commenting on the post, the mum also said: "It's getting divvied into this and next Christmas, first birthday, donations and regifting".
The mum then apologised for anyone who had been offended by the post, or had a "negative view," confirming it was all because her own mum was being "an overexcited grandma on his first Christmas".
She added: "It's all from his Nanna, not me. I'm aware of the less fortunate. I'm aware this is excessive.
"The crazy accumulated amount of stuff that we don't need has been donated to a foster care company for children born addicted.
"It was intended as a lighthearted post and I'm sorry."
