Mum 'embarrassed' after Home Bargains stranger approaches her son

A mum was overwhelmed after hearing about how a stranger approached her son in Home Bargains.

The Wirral mum, who asked to remain anonymous, has been stuck at home since Monday after testing positive for Covid and suffering with headaches, a sore throat and flu-like symptoms.

Unable to get out to go shopping, she sent her 16-year-old son to their local Home Bargains store in Seacombe yesterday on the hunt for a birthday card for her husband.

After picking up the birthday cards and heading for the till, the teenager realised he had forgotten his mum’s PIN.

He had no other means of payment and was unable to get in contact with his mum, so he planned to head back home empty handed.

The woman told the ECHO: “When my son tried to purchase the birthday cards with my contactless card it wouldn't work.

“He tried to use my pin and forgot what it was so then went to use his banking app which also wouldn't work. He then tried to call me but I missed the call.”

As he went to leave, a stranger stepped in and paid for the cards on behalf of the 16-year-old.

Arriving home, the mum said she was “thankful and overwhelmed” to hear about the act of the “lovely woman”.

But she also said she felt embarrassed on her son's behalf, adding: She added: “My son was shocked but also very thankful and I can only imagine being embarrassed as well probably because I know I would be!

“I'm unsure how much [it cost] but would love to find the lady to pay her back. “

Writing about the event on a community Facebook page, the woman said she wants to find the kind stranger to thank and repay them.

She wrote: “I'm currently stuck in with Covid so just sent my son to Home Bargains Seacombe to get cards for me as it's my hubby's birthday tomorrow.

"He couldn't remember my PIN and his banking app wouldn't work.

"A lovely lady has just paid. I'd like to say thankyou so much whoever you are and if you could contact me so I can repay you.”

So far, the post has received more than 185 likes and attracted many comments praising the woman for her random act of kindness.

One person wrote: “There are some gems in this world. Well done whoever it was."

Another person said: “Not many people like that left in this world so nice x"

After reading the post, a third person added: “Great stuff, I really do hope she is extremely proud of herself..xx"
