With Christmas dinner devoured and the Quality Street tin well and truly tucked into, households across the nation will now start preparing for the New Year. Taking the tree down is all part of the post-festive declutter, but many people can't agree on the best time to ditch the decs.
One mum is well ahead of the game and has her home completely back to normal, after abruptly ending the festivities at 6pm on December 25. Mum-of-two Georgia Schofield filmed herself taking apart the tree and packing away all her decorations on Christmas Day, then shared the video on TikTok.
It's the second year in a row that Georgia has gone viral online for her decision to get rid of Christmas early, and her followers still have mixed opinions.
The 24-year-old from Hartlepool explained in her caption that it's her daughter's birthday on Boxing Day, so she always starts afresh for her little girl.
"5.25pm and the Christmas decorations have been put away for Ava's birthday tomorrow, goodbye Christmas," she wrote.
But despite her sweet reasoning, lots of parents were quick to voice their judgement and disagree with her.
"May as well not bother putting it up," one person said, while another wrote: "I don't see why that means the tree has to come down."
"Some people like to take the joy out of Xmas!" a mum commented.
Though many people jumped to defend Georgia and explained how they do the same for their children.
"My daughter's birthday is Boxing Day and I used to do this," someone put.
Other TikTokers were in the minority that simply wanted Christmas done and dusted.
"Mine all down, everything organised and away. Can't cope with it out anymore," a person wrote.
"I can't wait to take my down. Day after Boxing Day mine come down," another agreed, and a third said: "My tree comes down every year on Christmas Day night."
Talking to the Mirror, Georgia explained her reason: "It's my daughter's birthday on Boxing Day and if it was me, I'd hate the tree being up. So I try and make it as normal as possible for her special day.
"I've done it every year so she knows no different, and she's never requested or questioned it. If I wasn't her birthday, I would have them up for longer."
Georgia, who is a dedicated mum to four-year-old Ava and two-year-old Leo, makes up for it by preparing for Christmas extra early.
"My kids' presents are all bought and wrapped by mid-October and the tree goes up at the end of November. I like to be organised," she said.
