Mum 'disgusted' after receiving opened Christmas cards with money missing

A mum has been left outraged after receiving Christmas cards in the post to find them already opened and with money missing.

The woman claims that £80 is missing in total.

In the run up to Christmas, mum Wendy revealed how her daughter Michelle was left devastated after discovering the opened parcels in her post.

Wendy told Birmingham Live : “I went to pick my granddaughter up to go into town to get the last Christmas presents and my eldest daughter Michelle was upset and she said she had just received the parcel in the post."

She added: "Inside the envelope were cards with Christmas cards in and it had been taped over again.

Michelle said that every card had been ripped open and they had put it back in the envelope and sealed it up again, with brown tape, it looked disgusting.

My daughter just could not believe it, she just opened the envelope as normal, there were quite a lot of cards, and she just couldn’t understand it."

The mum told YorkshireLive that Royal Mail have since offered £20 in compensation for the loss.

However, Wendy added of Michelle: "She was in tears, it wasn't even the money it was the fact that somebody went to this length, we would have rather that the envelope went missing in transit."

“The fact they put it all back in the envelope and resealed it and sent it on is the insult.

"It’s not just the money, I am fortunate we don’t need the money but it’s the fact that people out there will be relying on it, I don’t think it is a one off, I think someone is targeting somebody.

"I am just worried that this is happening to other people, ruthless people cashing in on children, I don’t think we are the only household in this area that have been affected."

Meanwhile, another woman has shared the bizarre Christmas card tradition she created simply to mess with people's minds in the run up to the big day.

She explained how she and her friend send out cards to "random addresses" each year - but instead of wishing them a merry Christmas, she give them fake "side quests" to complete.

Taking to Reddit, she simply said: "Every Christmas my best friend and I send cards to random addresses".

She also shared a picture of one of her Christmas cards, which read: "The money is in a brown paper bag under the mailbox on State Street. When you get it, text me on the disposable cell phone, throw it away and head to the airport. We're so close. Don't screw it up. - Frank."

While the women don't get to see the person's reaction when they open up their card, they hope it gives them a good laugh.

Most users laughed at their prank Christmas cards, but others raised concerns about them sparking panic with those who receive them.

One user said: "I hope you actually put a brown paper bag in the place with a note saying, "Merry Christmas ya filthy animal" in it."
