Mum dies in sleep on wedding day leaving 10-year-old son stranded abroad

A 'beautiful and caring' mother who died unexpectedly on the morning of her wedding in Trinidad leaves behind her 10-year-old son who is now stranded in the country. Nadia Joseph-Gosine from London tragically passed away in her sleep on December 7 from liver disease in the hours before her big day and her son Emari is now stuck over 4,00 miles from home, the Mirror reports.

The 33-year-old retail worker was due to marry her partner of five years, Devon Gosine from Trinidad, who also had no idea his fiancée was suffering from liver failure. Speaking in the UK, Nadia's heartbroken sister Isha Daley, 37, said she was aware she had issues with her liver in the past but thought everything was now okay.

Young Emari is now being looked after by Devon - who is not his biological father - while Nadia's family are trying to raise funds in the UK to cover the cost of bringing the 10-year-old home as well as the money needed to cremate Nadia. Isha has now paid tribute to her sibling who she described as a 'mini rebel' that was very 'lively and feisty'.

She said: "She was a very entertaining person. She just wanted to be happy. A little firecracker. She was very beautiful. Absolutely stunning. And she loved life, loved to travel."

Devon, who's been left devastated by his wife-to-be's death, described Nadia as 'the most loving, caring, and genuine person' and the love of his life. Holding back tears on the phone from Trinidad, he told MyLondon: "She would go all out for you and she was the most hard-working.

"She was always happy. Whatever she was going through she was always happy. She was the love of my life. She was always the best part of my life."

He added: "I can’t stop being reminded of what happened. Seeing everything and still I’m in disbelief. After all that time we were finally getting married. We were preparing for the rest of our life and all of a sudden it gets taken away. It was the toughest thing."

Nadia who lived in Beckton in East London had travelled to Trinidad with her son without travel insurance. They arrived a few weeks before the tragedy happened to spend time with Devon.

The night before they were due to be married, Devon revealed he and Nadia had been up late night talking as Nadia had been struggling to sleep but he thought she was just nervous about the big day. He says he cuddled her and she fell asleep but when he woke at around 2am and kissed her cheek he knew something was wrong when she didn't respond.

Paramedics later spent 45 minutes trying to resuscitate her but she was sadly pronounced dead. Devon said: "It just happened all of a sudden. At least she didn’t have to suffer."

Isha revealed doctors informed her Nadia's liver was so damaged she would have passed away two weeks later even if she had gotten medical help. Isha who is a NHS worker is set to look after Emari once he returns to London as she doesn't know where his biological father is.

His aunt has a 16-year-old daughter who is close with Emari and the family are currently trying to raise funds to cover his flight home which will cost roughly £900. Isha believes Emari has not processed his mum's death yet but he understands 'she is no longer here and everyone keeps him distracted'.

The sibling also needs to gather money to have Nadia cremated in Trinidad which she says costs 13,000 Trinidad dollars which works out at about £1,500. She disclosed that her sister had cancelled her life insurance just three months before she did and she and her son also didn't have travel insurance.

Isha says she is still in 'hopeful denial' and feels she won't be able to fully come to terms with her tragic loss until Nadia is back home in the UK. You can donate to help pay for Nadia's cremation and to bring Emari home here.
