Mum criticises 'gorgeous' graduation gown for being like something worn in a 'strip club'

With its flattering sweetheart neckline and stylish side split, TikToker Louise May was pleased with her recent ASOS dress, feeling that it would make for a sophisticated look for her upcoming graduation ceremony.

Many would think this elegant mid-length gown to be an excellent choice for such a special day, with the classy red wine shade perfectly complimenting Louise's dark brown hair.

However, having initially been keen to show off the gown to her mum, Louise was left astonished when her reaction was decidedly less than enthusiastic. After taking one look at the outfit, Louise's mum dismissively retorted, "it's a graduation, not a strip club", leaving Louise fuming.

Taking to TikTok, in a video that has since been viewed more than 5.7 million times, an exasperated Louise opened up about her mum's harsh feedback, venting: "mum just told me 'it's a graduation not a strip club', but I know if I was smaller the dress wouldn't be a problem".

Louise, who works as an actor and singer, also pointed out: "like it's your fault that I have hips mum so now what?"

Followers have since reassured Louise that the dress was a perfect purchase (@loumayyy/TIKTOK)

Her followers were quick to reassure Louise that the gown was actually "very classy" and "beautiful", with one person remarking that it looked like the dress worn by Emilia Clarke in the 2016 romantic tearjerker Me Before You.

Another wrote: "I guess your mom goes to 1940s strip clubs? You look gorgeous and it’s appropriate for the event! Glow!"

A third follower said: "As an ex-dancer, I can tell you, no one would wear this to the club. It is not skimpy at all, it is completely appropriate".

Others declared that the dress was so sophisticated that they would go as far as to wear it to a wedding or other such formal events, encouraging Louise to wear it regardless of what her mum thought.

Newly buoyed up by the endless stream of gushing praise, Louise explained that although her mum means well, she is also "my worst critic I swear", before sharing a further two clips of her proudly trying on the gown.
