This Morning fans were left sickened as they tuned into Monday's show and heard a story about a mother who was conned while her young daughter was dying of cancer.
Carla Dawson joined hosts Phillip Schofield and Holly Willoughby in the studio to discuss the heartbreaking situation she found herself in back in 2017.
Mum-of-six Carla was desperately raising money in a bid to save the life of her two-year-old daughter, Jorja-Rose, who suffered a brain tumour when stranger Chanel Bailey offered her help.
Chanel took part in a sponsored walk and a head shave but kept the proceeds for herself. To organisers, she claimed to be Carla’s sister, and later to be a close family friend, even turning up at the hospital in the last days of Jorja-Rose's life.
After the little girl passed away, Chanel took sensitive photos from Carla’s Facebook page and posted them as her own, and last month she was jailed for two years and three months after admitting theft and fraud.
Speaking about when Chanel wormed her way into her life, Carla told Holly and Phil: "I did think she was a bit strange but then I thought maybe she just had a few boundary issues, I just didn't see what everyone else was seeing.
"A lot of people said her behaviour was strange but I'm not a judgemental person, maybe I just didn't want to see any bad. I didn't think anyone would do anything like that."
Carla continued: "One time she even turned up to the hospital and it was just really strange, she would tell people she was my sister, Jorja was really poorly at that point as well but I just didn't want to be rude."
Carla went on to explain how Chanel had stolen money from collection boxes at a pub following a fundraising walk that had been held for Jorja-Rose.
"She was really adamant that she hadn't done it, I didn't want to think about it really, I was just concentrating on Jorja," Carla explained.
Asked how she felt when Chanel was sentenced last month, Carla said: "I don’t really know, I thought I’d be really happy and I kept saying I wanted her to go to jail but It's still done.
"I know she's gonna be punished for it, I hope she never ever does it again but still, I let her near my baby when my baby was so poorly. It's just something as a mum I think, 'why was I so trusting?'"
Sympathising with her, Phil replied: "I think your head was elsewhere on something like that."
This Morning fans were disgusted as they tuned into Carla's interview and took to Twitter to comment.
"There's a special place in hell waiting for that piece of sh*t #thismorning," one person posted.
Another tweeted: "What sort of piece of sh*t cons a the mother of a dying child? #ThisMorning."
A thirds person wrote: "Some people are scum. #ThisMorning," while a fourth added: "Got me in tears #ThisMorning."
Someone else posted: "Next level scum to steal from a dying child ffs. RIP Georgia-Rose #ThisMorning."
This Morning airs weekdays at 10am on ITV and ITV Hub.
