A mum was left with horrific injuries to her nose after flying over the handlebars on her bike as she crashed into a pothole, she claims.
Pamela Collis was cycling from a friend's house with fiancée Steven Hughes when she flew from her cycle and smashed face-first into the ground in Stafford.
The accident happened as she was riding along Penkvale Road on the evening of Good Friday and left her needing emergency hospital treatment.
She said it was dark at the time but they both had lights on their bikes.
Pamela, 47, was then "sent flying" as she hit the pothole, leaving her with a broken nose and fractured wrist, reports Birmingham Live.
The couple, who have been together for eight years, are planning to make a complaint to Stafford Borough Council.
Mr Hughes was critical of the state of the roads in the town, saying the council needs to maintain them better.
He said: "We were riding back from a friend's house on Friday night, obviously it was dark, we both had lights on. We took a shortcut through these back roads and we came to the end of this road, to go up over a bridge, and my partner has hit this pothole.
"With it being dark, she obviously couldn't see the pothole and she has just flown through the air and landed on her face, resulting in a broken nose and it looks like she might have fractured her wrist too. She was in hysterics after it happened.
"I managed to get her back on her bike, it happened about 10 minutes from our house. At that time of night, it was dark and it started to go cold.
"I thought, get her on the bike and go behind her and scoot her home. I managed to get her home."
Mr Hughes said her son took her to Stoke Hospital where medics tried to give her an X-ray - but her hand was so swollen that "they couldn't pick anything up".
He added: "They have put it in one of these braces and left it for a couple of days, for the swelling to go down, so they can X-ray it again next week. It doesn't look too good, if a limb swells up like that, it is either swollen or fractured."
Mr Hughes branded the roads in Stafford as a "disgrace".
He said he went back to the scene with his fiancée to find the pothole that caused her accident and photographed it.
In a Facebook post, Mr Hughes said he and his partner will be taking the matter further. He added: "My partner will be ringing the council on Tuesday morning."
The local authority, Staffordshire County Council, has been approached for comment.
