Mum baffled as husband goes 'absolutely mad' over a 'tiny bit' of lip filler

A mum is getting the cold shoulder from her husband and eldest child after getting filler in her lips.

Lip filler is designed to increase volume in the lips, with procedures skyrocketing in popularity in recent years. The ageing process causes the lips to lose volume, with many people choosing to enhance their pout in a bid to replace what is lost as the years tick by.

For some people, the application of filler is purely an aesthetic decision to alter their natural appearance - but a mum-of-four has come under fire for her choice to have a "tiny bit of filler" applied to her lips. She took to Mumsnet's famed Am I Being Unreasonable (AIBU) thread to seek advice on how to handle her husband and child's reaction to the procedure.

In a post titled "Bit of Filler... husband furious!" the 50-year-old mum penned: "Aibu [am I being unreasonable]? Went for my 6 monthly Botox treat today and decided to have a tiny bit of filler in my lips. They are currently swollen and look bigger than they will in a few days - but by no means a trout pout!

"Well my husband and eldest child have gone absolutely mad at me. They can barely look at me! They are furious! I can't believe my appearance causes them so much anguish when they barely look at me in normal [circumstances]! Said I look like I'm off TOWIE trying to be 20 and ridiculous...

"Husband is really really cross. I feel like I'm 15 again! I by the way, love it! Just turned 50 and have 4 kids... I just felt like looking after me and trying something new. Aibu - it's up to me? My face, my choice?!?"

The woman's post was met with a string of responses from fellow Mumsnet users keen to share their thoughts. One said: "sod 'em! Your choice! Xx".

Another said: "Tell your husband to f*** off". A third commented: "Yep, your face, your choice."

One Mumsnet user offered a different perspective and said: "Tbh [to be honest] I'd be pretty freaked out if my partner suddenly turned up having had something like that done without mentioning it!" Another said: "Would you be happy if your kids get fillers once they are adults?"

Another said: "Furious seems something of an overreaction. They don't have to like it, but fury?" Another commented: "How would you feel if your husband changed his face with an unnecessary procedure that can go very wrong? It seems like self harm to me, but maybe my view is biased, because I live in Essex where there are many people whose own mothers wouldn't recognise them anymore, it's like a form of body dysmorphia".

To this, the mum replied: "Ok I understand what you are saying. I just wanted to make myself feel nice!" But another Mumsnet user replied: "A bit of filler doesn't make you body dysmorphic, what a silly comment."

Another simply said: "Absolutely rude of them to comment like that". And another Mumsnet user said: "Your money, your body, your choice...within reason. A bit of lip filler is fine... it's not like you had a major boob job without a discussion."

The mum then replied: "Well it's funny you should say that. Recently on holiday I commented on a lady next to us who had wonderful boobs. My husband was all up for me having a lift! I wouldn't go that far - to go under anaesthesia but he mentioned it later and said he'd be happy to pay. Double standards?" In a further follow up comment, she added: "The redness has gone down today and I absolutely love my subtle enhancement. It makes me feel good anyway."
