Mum and disabled daughter 'saved' by stranger as they tried to board bus

A mum wants to thank a kind-hearted stranger who helped her when she was struggling on the bus.

The woman said she was travelling on the 471 Arriva bus from Birkenhead with her four-year-old daughter, who has physical disabilities as well as autism on Monday. Posting on Crimewatch Wirral Facebook group, the mum said she boarded the bus with her daughter in her arms.

This was because her four-year-old wanted to try a day out without her chair. But the mum said she then struggled to pay for a bus ticket.

Writing on the Facebook group she said: "I boarded the bus with my daughter in my arms as she wanted to give the day a go without her chair, but was becoming quite tired and distressed at this point. To add to things, my Apple Pay was playing up and wouldn’t let me pay for my ticket.

"I showed the driver that I did have the funds in my bank account and asked if I could sit down and purchase the tickets through the Arriva app and then come up and show him but he understandably had to decline."

It was then a kind-hearted stranger stepped in to help to stop the woman having to get off the bus. The woman said she posted on social media as she worried she didn't say thank you properly.

She added: "This lovely lady immediately came up and paid for us to board. There were no seats downstairs, so in the rush of carrying my daughter up the stairs and settled so she didn’t have a meltdown I don’t think I got to say thank you properly or even crack a smile as I was so stressed, and I haven’t stopped thinking about it. If you do see this, thank you so much.

"My daughter wouldn’t have understood and gone to pieces if we had to get off the bus so you literally saved our day."

The woman was also keen to stress she understood rules were in place for all passengers. She said: "Although my daughter has special needs, she is also extremely shy and was silent when we were at the front of the bus, so he wouldn’t have been aware of her needs, even if he was I understand rules are still in place for everyone. I just wanted to put across I wasn’t just trying my luck for a free ticket."
