Mum, 54, 'doesn't want to die' and leave her son, 10, behind

A mum has been given a "devastating" cancer diagnosis at the age of 54.

Gillian Morris, 54, from Litherland was diagnosed with terminal cancer 12 weeks ago. The mum of four has been described by her daughter Laura as the "strongest person she knows" and has not let the heartbreaking news "get her down".

Gillian beat breast cancer four years ago but after a CT scan this year she was found to have cancer in eight places on her body. Laura said that her mum's greatest concern is for Gillian's youngest son Rowan, 10, who is "her whole world".

Speaking to the ECHO Laura said: "The last 12 months she has been suffering with chest pains and then she was rushed into hospital twice in a few weeks then a scan found a 22 millimetre tumour in her chest bone it has been very hard on us.

"Rowan is her heart and soul, she always tells me I am grown up with my own kids but he is still a little boy and she loves him so much. It is unfair, she has never drank or smoked and done everything she is supposed to do."

Laura said her mum doesn't "want to dwell on the past" and wants to spend as much time with her family as possible. Gillian a former prison guard and social worker has not been able to work for the past five years due to her first cancer diagnosis.

Laura who lives in Maghull said: "My mum does not want to die, she does not want to leave my ten-year-old brother but she has given me so much strength over the years and now I just want to help her as much as possible.

"She is so loving and down to earth, I don't think there is anybody that she would not help and she wears her heart on her sleeve. I look up to my mum but she is the one who has given me strength. She is an unbelievable woman."

Laura is now raising money to buy her mum a summer house to help her spend more time in with her son Rowan. If you would like to donate to the page more information can be found here.
