MultiVersus is back and it's bringing with it new content. For starters, there's a new PvE mode known as Rifts which comes with unexpected twists and offers a different way to play the game. The game is available for the PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and the Xbox Series X/S. It's also out for the PC through the Epic Games Store and Steam. The platform though isn't much of an issue since there's full cross-play and cross-progression support.

The launch of MultiVersus also signals the start of Season 1: Puns & Villainy. Players can look forward to trying out new playable fighters like the Joker from DC, Jason Voorhees from the Friday the 13th horror movie series, and Banana Guard from Adventure Time. Agent Smith from The Matrix film series is also joining the roster later this season.

Different Modes to Enjoy

Players can enjoy MultiVersus in various ways through the different modes, available online and locally. As mentioned, there's the Rifts where players get to engage in boss fights, mini-games, and unique rewards. It's also a way to learn the mechanics of the game while being able to test characters and sharpen their skills.

The game can also be played through:

  • 2 vs. 2 team-based cooperative mode
  • 1 vs. 1 matches
  • 4-player free-for-all
  • co-op vs. A.I.
  • custom online lobbies
  • The Lab (practice mode)
  • tutorials
  • local play matches

Prepare to Fight

Making the fights exciting are the dynamically changing Dexter's Laboratory map and the City of Townsville map. The maps incorporate the main villain of The Powerpuff Girls who is none other than Mojo Jojo. Other maps are the Batcave (DC), Tree Fort (Adventure Time), Scooby's Haunted Mansion (Scooby-Doo), and Sky Arena (Steven Universe), to name a few.

Each fighter in the game brings with them a deep set of combat mechanics which is combined with improved visuals and lighting that put a strong focus on the characters and bring the players closer to the action on the screen. The game also makes use of a tailor-made rollback netcode to support online play and matchmaking.
