Warner Bros. and Player First Games are adding DC's Nubia, who is an ally of Wonder Woman, to their free-to-play fighting game MultiVersus on Oct. 15, 2024, with a new update.
The announcement reveals that the upcoming character is a close-range damage dealer who has a dominating moveset. She will make use of her Staff of Understanding to perform long-range spear combat and take advantage of her godly powers.
MultiVersus' Nubia Character
In a new trailer alongside the announcement, Nubia can be seen showcasing her abilities as an Assassin class fighter. She displays various slashes, strikes, and kicks towards her opponents. She can also generate shockwaves using her staff.
The new gameplay footage also shows off Nubia's Future State variant skin that will be available for purchase on Oct. 15, 2024. The free-to-play fighting game is currently available on PC and consoles, except for the Nintendo Switch, according to Gematsu.
Nubia's trailer showed how she can take advantage of her long-range attacks to perform long combos that direct foes with either high or low blast zones. The character comes from Wonder Woman's part of Warner Bros.' intellectual properties.
She has played a key role as both Diana's long-lost fraternal sister and one of the DC superhero's closest allies. There was even one point in the comics where Nubia ascended to become Queen of Themyscira after Diana's temporary death.
The new trailer also showed that Nubia's attacks seem to propel enemies upward continuously to keep them locked up. The first time that fans of MultiVersus got information about the new character was in September this year, Event Hubs said.
A Deadly Fighting Style
This was during the trailer that showcased the other new characters in the free-to-play fighting game, the Powerpuff Girls. But the new footage is the first time that players get a glimpse of how she will actually play out in MultiVersus.
On top of the new character, there will also be the Destroyed version of Townsville from the Powerpuff Girls universe that will become available.
This is a variant of a previously available stage that has Mojo Jojo flying inside his ship while terrorizing enemies and the town hall.
Nubia's first appearance in the Wonder Woman comics came in 1973 and she has been a part of the graphic novels since.
She later got her own series Nubia & the Amazons as well as Nubia: Queen of the Amazons which were released in 2021 and 2022, respectively, according to Hardcore Gamer.
