Several CalMac routes cancelled or disrupted due to strong winds

STRONG gales have caused disruption for many ferry travellers on Tuesday, with winds causing several popular ferry routes to be cancelled.

The Met Office has said Scotland is to face wet and windy weather moving in the north of the country, moving further south as the week presses on until it disperses on Thursday.

As a result, CalMac is not sailing several popular routes on Wednesday, citing the "strong south-westerly winds".

Multiple other routes will face disruptions or possible disruptions due to the harsh weather.

The ferry operator warned passengers travelling on Wednesday to make sure to check their sailings are running before setting off.

Cancelled routes:

  • Ullapool – Stornoway
  • Oban – Colonsay – Port Askaig – Kennacraig
  • Oban – Castlebay
  • Mallaig – Eigg – Muck – Rum – Canna
  • Mallaig – Lochboisdale – Oban
  • Mallaig – Armadale
  • Freight Ullapool – Stornoway
  • Ardossan – Brodrick
  • Ardmhor (Barra) – Eriskay

Disrupted routes:

  • Fionnphort – Iona
  • Gourouck – Dunoon
  • Troon – Brodick
  • Wemyss - Rothesay

Routes facing possible disruption:

  • Uig – Tarbert
  • Uig – Lochmaddy
  • Tobermory – Kilchoan
  • Sconser – Raasay
  • Oban – Coll – Tiree
  • Oban – Craignure
  • Gourouck – Kilcreggan
  • Gallanach – Kerrera
  • Claonaig – Lochranza – Tarbert
  • Bernerey – Leverburgh

A spokesperson said: "Due to forecasted adverse weather conditions, delays are possible on all sailings."
